LT1 and 700R4...???

I am thinking of getting an LT1. I have talked to one person taht bolted it up to his 700R4. Then I had this place tell my I had to use the 4L60E is this true??? It can't be if the other dude had it bolted to a 700. I just had a new 700 put in mine witha corvette servo and a stage 1 shift kit so i want to keep it.

The 700 is also called a 4L60, wich is the NON-electric version of the 4L60-E. The internals and bellhousing are identical between the two, but you will have to use a '93 ECM becuase it was the only year for the 4L60 to be bolted to an LT1, in '94 and later, it was the 4L60-E so the ECM is different to accomodate the extra electrical components in the transmission.

Cool that is what I thought. I thought they were the same tranny but wasn't sure.

if you get a '92 LT1 from a corvette you could use its ECM also, they had the 700R4 also.
i have heard that the corvette's LT1 is easier to swap in (not to mention better) and that you want to use the accessories off of the vette engine as they fit better in the thirdgen engine bay.

You CAN use a '94-'97 LT1 computer if you want, you just have to rig up a manual torque convertor lockup switch. That's it, just make sure you get a PCM that's for an M6 or else the computer will throw codes because it can't shift the tranny.

Also the '94-'97 PCMs use a MAF sensor versus the speed density setup, and the MAF sensor LT1s are known to respond to mods a bit better than the Speed Density ones.

Markloc, Yes, you CAN use a '97, but unless you want to have to deal with **** emissions, I wouldn't reccomend it. Also, in '97 (I think '96 too) they used MAF and MAP at the same time. Thank Big Brother and OBDII for that.
