@WOT First Gear runs till 6500RPM?!?!

I just got done drag racing at the track this evening. 3 of my 8 passes, when I took off, I stayed in first gear till about 6500RPM then it shifted into second. It's an '85 z28 TPI 305. It serious hacked my times. It's also a redline. When I did not floor it, It shifted before that high of RPM, resulting in better times. Is this supposed to happen? @WOT I would imagine that at the peak of acceleration in each gear, the 700R4 would shift yes? Tanny got a check up last month, everything good. 125k, new tv cable, oil, etc. My TPS was adjusted by a shop a month ago when the replaced fuel pump, could that be it? Also I have EGR Valve failure code 32... could that do it? Hmmmmm.....

Upshift-points (and downshifts) are controlled minimally by the TV cable, but majorly by the governor in the tailshaft. I've heard of the governor sticking, but don't know what that "means". Maybe that's causing your redlining?

EGR wouldn't cause it, at WOT the computer shuts EGR off- unless your code 32 is popping up because of a vacuum leak in the lines that go to the EGR valve.

did you have it in drive or in 1? if it is in 1 it will hold till 6000-6500 before it is forced to shift.I have a high red line for my cam this is how i know- if you had it in any other gear (2 or 3) and this happened I would check your cable

She was in drive. My cable is good. Brand new and adjusted by a very very reputible transmission shop. Under less than WOT it shifts fine. It's only when I floor the thing.
