Would a Vigilante 2800 be too much for a stock L98 Iroc?
Would a Vigilante 2800 be too much for a stock L98 Iroc?
Just curious. I'm thinking about getting a pristine one owner 87 Iroc-Z. It has 54,000 miles and is completely stock.
If I get it my first mod is going to be a Vigilante Torque convertor and some Drag Radials.
Any suggestions on Torque Convertors? I'm thinking a 2800 stall speed with a Stall Torque Ratio of around 2.5?

vortecfcar - Just curious as to why. The torque peak on a stock L98 is around 3200 rpms so a 2800 Vigilante would let me launch right in the meat of the torque band would it not?
I want a minimum of 1.80 60fts.

It would work great at the strip. A little loose around town. It comes down to personal preference. Precision built me a 2600 RPM Vigilante based on the data I supplied. The car's a lot funner to drive compared to the stock TC. Sixty foot times improved from 2.08-2.16 to 1.89-1.99 but my posi is fried so these numbers are only for 1 wheel drive. Running solidly in the 1.8x range with good tires and fresh posi is easy.

That is the converter I will be going with. 2800 is nice
You are right, the IROC will be great with that stall. Most people think that would be to much, but your rithg, the L98 has a great power band around that RPM, so why not just launch right into that! I will be going with a 2800-3000 stall, but I plan on a 383 build up soon.

With that much slippage, you'll probably want an extra transmission cooler if you do much driving in traffic.

I am running the 2800 stall Vig and it is a beautiful converter. I don't notice the looseness on the street at all. One work of advise....
With the stock TPI setup and the 2800 vig there is no way that you will get traction around town ... but, you will be able to create a lot of tire smoke

All Natural. No Force. No Drugs. Stock Bottom End. Stock Body Panels.
Gunning for NA 11's after installing Hooker LT Headers and reducing weight.

It's good to hear from someone using a Vigilante 2800. This IROC would just be a project car for me so I'm not interested in using it for daily transportation. I would just want a hard launch at the strip on some sticky tires.
