should I put in a th350 or keep the 700r4?
I was taking my trans out of my car to get it rebuilt and it fell off the jack and the core cracked. I was wondering what you guys think. Should I get another 700 or get a 350? Do you guys know if TCI is a good brand? For the people that have done this swap, does it handle better with the 350? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
chris

you just cant beat the 700 on the street and it has a very low first gear that gets u out of the hole in good fashion. youll miss the 700 if you dump it and you will also have to get some special parts (like a new driveshaft and some other torque arm junk)to install the 350

what about myself, where i already have a th-350 (previous owner install, very well done) would it be worth it to go back to the 700? I really miss the OD from my RS that had a 700...if i do i'll probably go with a probuilt.net one

It's worth the switch to the 700r4. I went from a th200c to a th350 and then to a 700r4. With 3.73 gears, my cruise rpm went from 3000 rpm at 60 to 2150 at 60 with the addition of the overdrive. Plus now I can cruise down the interstate at 80 without revving the **** out my engine.

I think your decision depends on your driving, if you drive alot of highway miles and gas mileage is a concern, I'd go with the 700R4 without a doubt... If your putting together a straight liner Id go with a 350 or a 400, they seem to be able to take more abuse or at least so Ive heard...I will tell ya that there are many mods being done to the 700R4 that really make them most dependable and strong as all hell...I went with the 700r4 (raptor) and I love it...

what do the raptor trannies go for, im thinking either tranny doctor in nevada, probuilt.net, or a raptor, i've heard really good things about probuilt trannies so im leaning towards them, i think its like 1650 for the tranny/tc/shift kit, but i might be wrong.

The TH350 is lighter in weight and certainly less expensive, if that's what you're looking for. The 700r4 tranny actually shares many parts with the TH400! It's quite rugged and I'd get another one if I were you.
I disagree with tf0R1 in that if you are building a straight-liner, a 700 is the BEST! First-off, you have better first gear (3.06 vs 2.52 = 20% better first gear!!!)
You can also go WAAAAAAAAAAAY up in rear axle ration numbers and still be drivable on the street. Ex:
TH350 with 3.73 gears and 27" tall tires will be about 3500rpm on the 70mph highway and would be a pretty fast car.
TH700 with 5.13 gears and 27" tall tires will be about 3250rpm on the 70mph highway and would be one of the fastest cars at the track...
I have 4.11 gears in my 2WD Wrangler (350) and it is wicked fast. I have used 4.56's in it but obviously, this is not a track vehicle. Mainly a toy that I periodically tow with.

I would definately keep the 700r4, for the overdrive, and launch power. You can always modify the 700r4 since it already out.

Thats the tranny I got and its awesome, and by the way I am a 700R4 kinda guy, although the earler 700r4's really sucked as far as reliability, they are quite awesome today...Keep in mind most people will never see over drive in a quarter mile, and that was my point in my last post...
