Not much power to rear wheels
I've got a strange issue that has slowly crept up over the last year. A year ago April, I had rebuilt the engine in my sons camaro and put in a new torque converter. It was a 2400 stall. The tranny is a 700R4 with a shift kit. The engine is a full roller motor, zz4 cam, 113 vette heads, comp cams roller rockers, TPIS big mouth intake and used the stock TPI. Its a 350 bored 60 over and used hooker headers jet hot coated and y-pipe. 3" exhaust with cat delete and hooker aerochamber muffler.
Nonetheless, it was running really well and over the last year, it has slowly got to where it just would seem like it bogged down towards the high end. Over time, it now acts like it doesn't transfer the power to the rear wheels. At about 30mph, I can punch it, the engine pops like you'd expect, and the car does accelerate, but it just doesn't seem like its transferring power, it doesn't accelerate like it should. Also, around 60 or 70 and you punch it, it doesn't gear down like I think it should either.
I have adjusted the throttle shift linkage and detent cables and still no change.
I don't know if this is vacuum related or if the torque converter is shot or something.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions based upon the info I've given?
Thanks,
Pat

Re: Not much power to rear wheels
Have you ever had it tuned? When I bought my car I had it tuned and got rid of that problem, and picked up 50 horse. Does gas drip out of the tailpipes when idling for a few minutes?

No, no gas. The idle had been rough lately and running rich, but I fixed that today, it was a vacuum leak at the cannister.
The engine has plenty of power, that much I can tell. It just doesn't seem to send it to the wheels.
Thanks,
Pat

Re: Not much power to rear wheels
Also, today, when looking for the rough idle, I did replace the cts, checked the tps, reset the iac and checked the timing. I had replaced the bug and cap about 2 months ago, as well as the plugs. The spark plug cables are only a year old.
So all in all, the engine runs pretty good, just can't seem to put the power to the rears.
Oh, one other thing I forgot to mention, it also has an additional tranny cooler mounted in front of the radiator. Not that it really matters, but wanted to let you all know what all is on the car. :-)
That being said, I should also state that the rear is a posi 9-bolt with 3.73 gears.
EDIT: On my first post, I should have mentioned that I adjusted the TV cable up at the TPI, not at the tranny.
Thanks,
Pat

Re: Not much power to rear wheels
Well, I got it figured out. I found out that the procedure in the Haynes manual for setting the TV cable isn't 100% correct. After researching on the site, I found the link to the correct way to set this cable. Here is the link in case anyone else has run into this:
http://www.tvmadeez.com/article/index.php
If you follow the procedure detailed there, it will properly "set" the tv cable and this corrected my whole issue. Hopefully, there isn't any damage done from this being set improperly for this long period of time.
Thanks,
Pat
