Won't start because of Tranny??
Won't start because of Tranny??
I drove my 89 Camaro RS/MT 60 miles this morning, and noticed some pretty nasty slippage going on along the way at lower RPMs when I tried accellerating. I parked it at the end thinking I needed to put some fluid in later today.
Well, it's later today, and now it won't even start! Are these two related in any way??

No, a slipping tranny won't cause a "no-start".
When you say "RS/MT" I am to assume that you have a Rally Sport with a Manual Transmission, how do you figure that it needs fluid if it is slipping?

Low fluid will not cause a manual transmission to slip. You probably have a burnt clutch.

Hey, there used to be a sound like an electric motor from under the body when the ignition switch was turned on, prior to starting...that sound is no longer there. Is, or should I say 'was', that the fuel pump?

If your car still runs, probably not. It may be the fuel pump relay, but not the pump. If it does not run, then yeah, probably the pump.

Crap. I'm beginning to think the pump died on me, and the sluggishness/"slippage" I thought was the tranny/clutch was actually the fuel pump on it's death leg.
Man, oh man. Isn't that thing actually IN the tank? I'm not driving it home for a while, then.

Yeah, your right it's in the tank. Not too hard of a job but I dropped my tank with the exhast system removed because I hadn't installed it yet. Just gotta drop the rear end down (watch the rear brake line that goes into a T at the thirdmember) and then undo your fuel lines and two bolts hold the straps in place. Took me about 30min to drop. Longer to put up cause that gas tank is a pain to weasel around. Good Luck
