t5 is half out, need help
t5 is half out, need help
Here's what we've done:
* cross member out
* clutch linkage out
* flywheel guard bolts out (the small 10 mm ones that hold in the metal guard)
* two bolts on each side bellhousing for a total of 4 bellhousing bolts removed
That sounds weak.
It's cold as ***** out here.
Anyway we have yet to do the long black brace thing, we have the two large bolts started.
What is left? Just the u-joints (after we take off the brace by the driveshaft) ?
Are there only four bellhousing bolts? Or are there six? If there are six where are the other two?
Thanks.

bleak,
I hope you are refering to the torque arm when you talk about the "long black brace thing", that is what it should be and you do not have to take the two long bolts out at the rear end. Just loosen the mount off the side of the tranny by taking the one bolt out at the top of the mount.
There are six bellhousing to block bolts. Two will be on either ide at the bottom, the next two will be about half way up the bellhousing side. The last two are almost directly above the middle two if its a V8, if it's a V6 they are going to be very close to gether at the top of the bellhousing. On the V6 I have found it for me to be much easier to get to these two by going through the engine compartment. You will see them right underneath the distributor.
One thing I have learned in the past. If it is a V8 you need to remove the tranny first from the bellhousing. Then remove the bellhousing. If it's a V6 you can bring down the entire tranny with bellhousing. Don't ask me why that is, its just been one of my past experiences.

Well I thought that was the torque arm, but I didn't want to say that and look stupid if I were wrong.
I don't have to remove the rear bolts, huh? That's cool.
It's a v6, btw, I apologize for not being clear about that.
I do have to unbolt the ujoints, correct?

Yes, just ubolt the two caps (4 bolts total) at the rear that hold the ujoint in place at the diff. You will be able so slide the other end of the driveshaft right out of the tranny.

Here's something useful about getting the driveshaft out-
