Edge converter
Hi,
I'm propably going to replace my current "vette"converter(2025stall) to street Edge with 2800rpm stall.Would there be much difference between vette vs. Edge converter in normal driving due Edge's higher stall speed? And in performance, would there much difference between Edge vs. vette converter(str, slippage etc.)Have you liked Edge converters?

Re: Edge converter
Look into vigilante. They make really nice converters for the money. You would be pretty safe with a 2600-2900 stall converter. Just remember that you want a converter that stalls 500-750 rpm below max torque.

Re: Edge converter
I just check from engine dyno data sheet, engine makes over 400lb-ft from 3100rpm(first reading) to 5300rpm.Peak 440lb-ft was at 3900rpm

Re: Edge converter
I would do a 3200 stall in a 10 inch street/strip converter. I sell a nice one at Transmission Specialties for $649. I spec these things out all day long and your motor needs more than a 2800 stall. That would disapoint you, trust me.

Re: Edge converter
You think a 3600 would be too much for his combo?

Re: Edge converter
Probably not too much.... It would hit hard for a good track car. I just feel like street cars need to take advantage of there rpm range from begining to end. So if his powerband on a motor built like his was 2800-6500, picking up the pace from 3200 is strong and leaving plenty of pulling power. Big stalls on the street are kind of awkward in my opinion. There loud and agressive and tend to not have the "locked up feeling" past seconed gear. They also leave a lot of traction to be desired.
I actually run a 3200 stall in my street car and its an absolute animal from that point because my cam is matched well. If I did more track racing I would probably shoot to a 3500 stall max becuase I would want the car to fall back on shift a little higher to keep the rpm's up.

Re: Edge converter
Little too late...I ordered yesterday 2800 stall street edge.
Can you give recommendation stallspeed to my friends car.It is -89 firebird 383,trick flow 195cc kenny duttweiler heads, stealthram, comp 306 cam etc.Weight is ~3700lbs with driver,3.27 rear.It made 373rwhp/350rwtq.Street driven.

Re: Edge converter
Look at my numbers compared to his...lol
Well first thing is his gear ratio needs to go up to at least 3.73 but probably 4.10 to match a stall converter and his cam together. You would need cam numbers at .050 to be accurate with stall and rpm range. My guess is his cam numbers are over 230's/240's @ .050. If thats the case a 3200 is appropriate for the street and to go fast on the track a 3500-3800 stall will be benificial.

Re: Edge converter
Yes those comp 306 duration at 0.05 are 230/244.So 3200 stall would be good choice to his car.
