I think all that CAGS does is 'make' you shift from 1 to 4 when thottle is low. Bassicly locking out 2nd and 3rd. This is a fuel economy & emissions thingy, and this is why most people bypass this crap.

Sorry I not getting detailed but I'm heading out the door.

The reason for its existence is due to the fact that the government's CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) standards forced GM to add this 'feature', or be forced to classify the F-body as a 'gas guzzler', which adds a separate tax upon purchase. Having CAGS also allows GM to produce more SUVs, since CAGS lowers their overall CAFE rating.

Don't worry about it for a swap. Since it is not hooked up to the ECM, it won't do anything. You can shift normal.

You can mod it to work to your advantage, if you like. Some people have made manual switches to turn on CAGEs for track use. The whole idea behind it is you have a button on your shifter, when pushed in it makes shifting to 2nd impossible. Once you shift into 3rd you press down the button as you shift to 4th. This way on the 3-4 shift you don't screw up and accidentally shift into 2nd there by over revving the ending and killing your valve train. The LS1 owners came up with that trick and call it the DRAG Cags mod. Makes since, cuz that's exactly why they do it.

All 6 speeds used on commercially sold cars have CAGS after 1994. From the Supra to the Miata if it's got a 6 speed it's got CAGS.

Also the T56 features another sylinoid, one that locks out reverse. You can either rig up a switch however you please or rip out the guts. (One guy looked it up so when his foots on the brake the sylinoid is charged pen: and can freely use reverse there for preventing missed shifts into reverse while rolling forward.)

Checkout these sites on T56 swaps if you already have not.

Got to give it to the LS1 guys creating that use for CAGS. The only thing about the foot is sometimes you are downshifting while pushing the brake. I'd wire it into the E-brake because 95% of the time I go into reverse it's from being parked. It would be a hassle when backing into places but not as bad as a shift into reverse at highway speeds

I might just make the reverse lockout a switch on the dash.

You could always put it under your power window switches. Use one of those lighted push-in buttons. This way it's easy to reach and you won't accidentally bump it.
