where is the reverse lockout T56?
This is a recently acquired T56 that was supposedly from a 95 F-body. It came with the correct bell housing, F-body trans member, and the output/input shafts have the right number of teeth for a 4rth gen.
The reverse lock out solenoid is supposed to go where the red circle is right? I'm guessing the yellow circle is the CAGS solenoid.
If so, I'm wondering why the reverse solenoid was removed and the hole plugged up. Was it possibly pulled from another conversion project such as a Miata or something?
Or did certain year 4rth gen Lt1s not have CAGS and have the reverse lock out solenoid installed in its place?

Yes.
Maybe.
1993 didn't have CAGS.
Rev. Lockout solenoid is on the left of the tailhousing on all T56 and TR6060 except for transaxle-use on the Vette. There, it's up high on the right side of an box above the shift guide plate.

You got that one flipped, jmd.
The solenoid circled in yellow is the CAGS, the plug is where the reverse lockout should be.

All wrong, oamhmad is right. The red circle is the reverse lockout. The yellow circle is the CAGS. Lots of people remove the reverse lockout when doing swaps because they don't know or are unwilling to do it correctly. Do yourself a favor and buy the reverse lockout solenoid controller from Samoco.

Here you can see the reverse lockout. I have my CAGS plugged. No use for it in a thirdgen.

Yes I do plan on using a reverse lockout solenoid. That website has only an electronic control reverse lockout control module and not the actual solenoid for sale. Does any one know where I can get the solenoid itself?
Also, any ideas on how to remove that plug? Is it threaded in there? There's no where to fit a wrench onto it.

Your plug looks like a freeze plug. Remove the shifter and you should be able to knock it out from the inside.

Knocking it out won't damage the threads will it?

Re: where is the reverse lockout T56?
Sorry about the bad info last night, I obviously had my head up my *** at midnight.
I do not know of anyone who sells the reverse lockout, and I suspect it would be prohibitively expensive from GM. I'd try to find a used one on LS1tech.
Plug looks like a freeze plug. Knock it sideways (away from the threads) and pull it out with a plier.
The $100 VSS sensor setup is a nice unit, but if you're one of us normal people and not made of money like '87350' is, you can tap it into the brakelight switch.

Re: where is the reverse lockout T56?
I am just particular. The brakelight switch would work ok. But there are plenty of situations were I put it in reverse without my foot on the brake. Also the 4-5 shift while on the brake does happen occasionally.

Re: where is the reverse lockout T56?
I daily drove a T-56 car for years with it hooked to the brakes and I never once ran into a 6-5 downshift on the brakes or a shift into reverse while off the brakes, but I am sure that is attributable to my driving style. I just want to make sure the OP doesn't get sticker shocked and end up removing it when it can be made to work for free.

Also, agreed on the 6-5, no danger there. The potential danger is a 4-5 upshift while on the brake. This does happen occasionally after a long full throttle run. Need to slow down from triple digits and get the rpms down at the same time.
Re: where is the reverse lockout T56?
Sorry to drag up a long-dormant thread, but I figure this is better than starting a new redundant one
The above has answered all of my questions except for two:
1.) What goes in the hole covered with green tape in 87350's pic? The VSS deal?
2.) Whatever it is I can tell its held in with a tab, so where does the threaded backup light switch go? Think I found the hole on the pass. side of the gear box but not 100% sure.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

2. Reverse light switch is indeed on the pass side. Here you can see it.
