Diffrential, what fits my 86' IROC?
Hey all. Sounds like my diffrential is going out. I currently have a 3.23 posi unit (not sure if the gears make a diffrence or not!)
Anyway, I have seen some for sale, but they all have spline diffrences. Do i have a 26 spline? a 28? im not too sure. do all thirdgens have the same axles?
Thanks!

If the rear in your car was put there by the factory, it is 26 spline axles.
Not all are the same axles, obviously, since some are 26 spline and some are 28.
Are you trying to replace only the carrier/gears, or the entire rear axle assembly?

Hey, you're right in my backyard. What kinda car do you have? Check out the local club, in my sig.
If you are sure you have a 3.23 posi 10-bolt, and not a 3.27 9-bolt, then you need an auburn posi unit for 26 spline axles. Jegs sells one for $300.

woah! cool, someone close to me!
Yeah, im sure its a 10 bolt. thats all i know. i just know i need to replace it. it makes loud moaning noises when i turn, and sometimes when one rear wheel is higher than the other.
Its done this for a while now, someone "diagnosed" the problem as being the axle bearings, and i had them changed, but it didn't do squat.
oops, forgot, i have a 1986 IROC Camaro, 305 TPI. its a 3.23 (decoded the RPO). im not like the kind of person who works on cars (wish i was!) i just have learned a few things.
my poor car has so many problems... ug.
hey kevin91z! do you know of a good mechanic who knows how to work on camaros around here? or anyone who is a garage mechanic who would help me work on some things for some moolah and guiness?
