Transmission GURUS! Need Help with 700r4 :(

Have a 87 Camaro with a 700r4. Transmission had a quality rebuild that is 3 years old,only has 25000 miles. Symptoms it has; after engine runs for approx. 15 mins,trans emits a whining/grinding noise. Seems to be loudest in park and neutral(when hot). When driving,makes the noise but when speeds slow down to approx. 10mph,noise goes away. The whining/grinding also goes away when the tv cable is unhooked from the carb. If the tv cable is pulled on with the car running,whining changes pitch according to how much the cable is pulled on. After car has been driven for 25 mins or so,the trans starts to have trouble shifting into 3rd and overdrive,unless engine is reving very fast then a shift can be coaxed. Also noticed that the shifts are mushy when hot,not as firm when cold.

For the first 15 mins,this trans is perfect. It has no noise or problems whatsoever drives perfect and feels as it did right from day 1 of the rebuild. There has never been any smell of burnt clutches and the trans has never been overheated.

Here is what I have checked thus far; fluid is full and is as clean as it was when new. No abnormal metal or deposits in the pan,I replaced the filter and 0 ring,cut open filter to inspect and nothing out of the ordinary,checked govenor gear and no cracks or damage. TV cable is gauranteed adjusted correctly. Have'nt checked anything to do with the valve body yet,likely going to drop valve body tomorrow.
Anyone have any ideas on what to look for and where to look?
Can anyone confirm if it could be my pump,TCC solenoid,planetary bearings,torque converter or debris in the valve body?
Sorry for the lengthy post,thanks in advance.

Sounds like it could be your pump. I had an old Camaro that would emit a whining noise. Turned out to be the pump going bad.

I was thinking the pump,but I was told that usually when a pump goes,it goes suddenly.

Thanks for the reply. I checked the pan and it was very clean. No heavy debris found,just some light grey film to the touch. I did the tv cable pull test and the noise changes in pitch. Guessing the pump is on its way out?? Is it possible to change just the pump or does it need another complete rebuild? Thanks in advance.

Re: Transmission GURUS! Need Help with 700r4 :(

So anyone have any input on my trans issues?
Here is a quick break down in symptoms;
Whining noise when hot,whining is present in park and neutral,goes away when switched to a gear,whining goes away when tv cable is removed from carb,when tv cable is pulled,whining goes up in pitch. Trans works perfect when cold,no noise or anything. After 20 mins of running whines and has trouble finding 3rd and 4th and slips. After hot,can't find reverse,shut of the engine,start it back up and works perfect for a minute then same issues. Torque converter?

Istall a pressure gauge, that way you will "see" what is happening. This will tell you what is going away. Take pressure readings when cold and hot, in each gear, then get back to us here. Dana
