I'm assuming that you are talking about the Ford Traction Lock. Yea, it has 4 pinion gears, but the side cover (where the clutches are) is very weak and can be broke by a Ford small block. I've got a pile of them that are either broke or cracked.
I'm not saying that the 9 inch is no good, I have one in my Camaro. I'm just saying that most of the time the 12 bolt is better because you don't need the extra strength of the 9 inch. The added weight and extra power that is required to turn it makes it a bad choice over the 12 bolt. I have a 427 and a 4 speed in my car. The 12 bolt would have been fine in my car, but I built my 9 inch with parts that I had lying around. The only thing new in it is the bearings. I also used a Detroit Locker instead of the Traction Lock.

On mosers site i was looking at the housing and axle kits, would i need the one with or without the torque arm braket???
Also i dont know which one would be better? Should i go with the 9 inch or 12 bolt?

The 12 bolt will handle more than the very best 700R4 can handle. There are several options on the 12 bolt that make it stronger than any of the original Chevy rear ends ever were. You can get 33 spline axles and 9 inch Ford axle bearings to eliminate the c clips. You can also get the Detroit Locker, which is stronger than the Eaton posi. If you want to road race or auto cross then you can get the Truetrac. The housings are cast thicker and the axle tubes are stronger than the original 12 bolt.

probably because its just the housing and axle package and not the center section.

The housing and axle package is around $1000. You need to provide a center section. Get the package with 31 spline axles then go pull a center section out of something like an old Bronco or a F150 4x4 that has 31 spline axles and pop it into the Moser housing. Swap over your brakes and it's ready to install.
You need the diff with the torque arm bracket to be a direct bolt in. That's the main reason why you can't just go find a junkyard diff that's the same with and swap it in.
There isn't a huge power difference between a 9" and a 12 bolt. The 12 bolt uses up a little less HP but very few people will notice the difference. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. What works best is your own personal choice.
I'm just looking for another set of gears and I have a new center section ready to install. Moser bolt through aluminum case. Aluminum pinion support for the larger Daytona bearing. Aluminum spool. Without the gears, it weighs 25-30 pounds
The complete steel one that's currently in my diff must be at least 75 pounds.

Just from experience with friends' cars (3rd and 4thgen cars), I actually prefer the 12-bolt setups to the 9" setups. Theres nothing wrong with the 9", but its just such a tight fit in a 3rdgen or 4thgen chassis. The 12-bolt is physically smaller externally, so its just seems to fit easier into the car, and has more clearance all around than the big bulky 9" housing.

I didn't say there was NO room though, just that theres noticeably MORE clearance everywhere with the 12-bolt. Especially true with the 4thgens, but its quite noticeable with the 3rdgens too.

Sorry if I hijacked this thread......but what kind of panhard bar are u running ? looks like it has both the upper and lower bars and is adjustable. Also the brackets (big black ones not the gold ones with red bushing) to attach the sway bars to the axle tubes did they come with the 9" . what is it called and any help on where I can get it would be great.!! I did try my local Orilly;s with no luck

True duals.
It's 100% aftermarket tubular panhard bar and trac bar. It relocates the panhard bar lower so when the suspension goes up and down the axle doesn't go right to left near as much as the stock setup.
Moser says you can just use muffler clamps for the sway bar. However again mine's all aftermarket. I think you can order it with those brakects from moser if you want.
