Pushing it to the limits?
Pushing it to the limits?
I have a zz430 for a 89 that has a WC t5. the motor makes 430 horses and 430 lbs of torque at 4000 rpms. The car wont see the drags that often just mainly for street. I orederd a rebuild kit for my t5. Last night I tried to rebuild it but it went all to heck I have no Idea how to put the thing together again( My hat is off to you who have rebuilt your t5) I havent opened the rebuild kit yet so They said I could send it back. SHould I send it back and get me a aftermarket t56? Or should I give all the pieces to the local tranny shop they said they could put it back together for 175 if i keep my kit? will my motor rip up the t5?
any of you want to buy a WC T5 for cheap if I get a aftermarket t56. There isnt anything wrong with it other than I dont know how to get the thing back together.

Unless you disassembled it into individual molecules it shouldnt be that difficult to put together. Specifically, where are you getting confused? I have a nonWC apart right now and i am sure some people on the board could send you some pics of a WC that is apart. From what i have read on this board, the T5 is rated at about 315 ftlbs of torque. It will last a while if you dont abuse it too much.
HOw is your rebuild going. DId you get a manual to follow? What I have now is a pile of parts. I shouldent have taken it apart there wasnt a thing wrong with it. It shifted smooth and didnt grind in any gear. I just wanted the piece of mind of rebuilding it. And knowing I did it myself but it dosent look like its going to happen. You want to buy It?
You will want the rebuild kit too I havent sent it back. the rebuild and manual shipped to me was 191.65 The Rebuild kit has not been opened so you wont confuse them with the old parts. A tranny shop I called told me they would give me 75. for it as a core. You can have the rebuild kit manual and tranny for 275. plus shipping. Im not trying to make any money on it and If it will help you then good. I dont know how much shipping will be. When I priced shipping for a t56 it was 85. but a t56 weighs more than the t5. If you want I will have the local tranny shop put it back together. with the rebuild kit they quoted me 175, since I already had the kit. then the price would be 450 plus their tax..
Ive done several nonWC trannys. I just about had this one together when i realized that one of the ears has a small crack in it which i need to weld. I dont have a manual, i got the specs from RB. If you take your time and figure to figure it out, its not as bad as it seem. Make sure you set the input shaft and counter shaft preload to proper specs. I always go on the tighter side of the range since they only get looser with wear. If you dont know much about trannys you may want to go to the library and get a book.

I might be interested... I think I can get it back together
might even have a few spare parts laying around even after throwing away an entire construction dumpster full of basuta when I moved out here
I have a 400 in front of my T-5, it is surviving but its days are numbered. If you use the engine's power often and carelessly you will shred a T-5. Use it sparingly and carefully, and the T-5 can ladt a pretty good while, especially if kept full of good fluid. Otherwise, you will come out cheaper in the long run with something a bit stouter.

Well who ever wants it hurry and let me know because if you dont want it i need to send my rebuild kit back. They said they would take back the kit since I havent opend it yet. Ive made Up my mine to get a t56 or a tremec even went and got my loan. Like I said early it was a good tranny It had no problems and shifted smooth I just basicly wanted to put a kit in it so I could say I did it myself. ( I guess its a Man thing) but there is more to it than I thought
