swap 9 bolt for 10 bolt will hardware mount????

I have a borg warner 9 bolt and having problems with it, I want to put in a GM 10 bolt but do not know if the caliper brackets will mount up the same? has anyone done this and if so what do I need or is it a direct bolt as long as the 10 bolt is disc brakes as well?

it depends, if your are going to install the PBR brakes 11.65 aluminum caliper, on a pre 91 ten bolt then you will have to get the backing plates for the 91-92 10- bolt from the dealer or yard. i don't have the part number. i JUST DID THE SWAP I DESCRIBED. i paid about 50 for the plates at GM. Otherwise the 88 and older disc set-up is the same back to 82. No plate cahnge req. (i think) good luck and if you need to explian more feel free. THE SHAGGY IROC

As long as you put in an 89-92 10-bolt with disc brakes, everything will bolt right up. I went the other way, traded my 91 10-bolt 3.42 for a 89 9-bolt 3.45, for the strength.

I swapped my '89 9bolt for an '88 10 bolt. As mentioned above, the backing plate is completely different. I tried to purchase the plates from 3 different dealerships before the last one told me that they were no longer being made. So I welded up the bolt holes on the '89 backing plates(ones that bolt up to the end of the axle housing), marked the '88's pattern on the plates and drilled new holes. I was able to retain the '89 up rear brake system and haven't had any problems with the 10 bolt's strength (crossing fingers and knocking on wood here ).

Sparks a flyin'.

I'll buy your 89 9-bolt,just to play with. just the guts with gears. You'll need the brakes and hardware for your swap anyway
