700r4 Pump Question

Hey everyone just a quick question, i have been looking around on here and i keep saying that if the front pump casting ends with 732 that the trans is better, because of the 10 vane pump ,and other stuff.... but when i tore mine down to rebuild it , it has the 732 casting, but there is only 7 vanes in it? did they ever come like this, or has someone put this in for some odd reason? this is an 86 model and there is no aux valve body.

Re: 700r4 Pump Question

All transmissions from about mid 1984 are 10 vane. The #732 front pump is a 1987 and up. Comes with a larger drainback hole and a lip to keep the bushing from walking out. Dana

Re: 700r4 Pump Question

Interesting, So someone has put the wrong guts in the pump and changed it to a 7 vane? If they cheaped out like that when putting it together now it makes sense why it did not last. Now is it normal for the the 732 pump to be used without an aux valve body? I read somewhere that there is a hole that needs to be pluged.
