T56 Installation

I plan on swaping out my 700-R4 for a T56 in the spring. Is this a project that can be done in my driveway? I'm thinking that it would be difficult to jack the car up high enough to get the old trans out and the new one in. Also, I know that I have to cut the floor pan about 1 inch back for the new shifter, but if I cut it back an inch isn't the shifter going to hit the interior plastic counsol when I shift into 2, 4, and 6th?

Thanks,
MIke

i believe that you read the installation instructions for a T-5 car. you will have to cut a descent size hole in your floorboard, not just an inch. as far as the height to get the auto tranny out, it is up there but not too high that a 3 ton jack wouldnt do. it can be done in your driveway, just the other day i pulled my 700-r4 out while it was raining in my backyard.

I put a 95 t-56 in my car that was originally a 700r4. I had to cut about a 4x6 inch hole in the floor. The shifter handle was actually closer to the front of the plastic console than to the back, but it does not touch. I took a hack saw blade and cut out the old automatic gear select plate and made a shifter boot to fit under the lip of the console. It fits perfect and I have fulled everyone into thinking it's a factory 5-speed console. Go for it. I did mine in my garage with a jack, ramps, and two jack stands. By myself too
