TALLER GEARS FOR A BORG WARNER 9 BOLT?

I have an '89 IROC-Z with the 350 tuned port in it, mostly stock. It has the standard Borg Warner 9 bolt rear end with 2.77 gears. I was wondering if there was any taller gear sets out there for that rear end? So far I haven't been able to find any. Please let me know.

You are SOL unless you can find a 3-series carrier. Then your choices are still limited to 3:27,3:45, 3:70 & 3:73.

The carrier would need to be changed to be able to lower your gears, I just noticed that. I believe you have a 2-series carrier.

www.9bolt.com

Between these two you should be fine!

Do a quick search for 9 bolt on here. There was a thread not too long ago that listed a few more sites to get parts.

The 3.27 would be a series-3 carrier. You can also find ring and pinion sets at Randys Ring & Pinion: http://www.ringpinion.com/PartsList....b-Differential

Nah, I just installed 4.10's into my 9bolt 2 weeks ago. I got them from a guy on this site and he got them from diffsolutions.com a while back I do believe.

They carry 3.89's also...Which I may try to get and pull these 4.10's back out to sell...I'm going through the traps @ 122mph @ 6600 and I still want to spray a ton more.

Re: TALLER GEARS FOR A BORG WARNER 9 BOLT?

just an FYI---taller means lower numerically. (ie 2.56 are taller then your 2.77)

Shorter mean higher numerically which is what you want.

Unless he really wants taller gears... (numerically lower...You beat me to posting numerically lower means taller.)

Maybe he wants top end speed? With a 6-speed, tall gears still feel good around town.
