older engine drop, will it fit the T-5?
well story goes, i got a vette, engine spun some berrings (damn broken idiot light) and we did a massive rebuild. so the engine is strong as hell, however right now it is just sittin. its getting prepped for paint and body work has been a long deal. anyway i want to paint the engine compartment when i do the color change to the vette, and having a engine sit is bad, so i wana drop it in the 'ol TA. give it some pep
(a buttload of pep), and keep the vette engine running at the same time.
my question is: Will a '79 4-bolt main 350, fit a 85' T-5 tranny with little or no problems?
will i need a higher grade flywheel or clutch?
(highly doubt it but) Driveshaft?
the L-82 (vette) has about 350hp at the fly and redlines at 6700. if that helps.

T-5 tranny. thank god, i couldnt stand an LG4 auto.
Plans for an LT-1 or LT-4,
dual flowmaster exaust,
& a pounding stero.
mods right now include a radar detector.

it should, the bolt patterns have been the same since 1955 i think.
but... T5s suck a lot, they just cannot handle much torque!

It will bolt right up as if it was made for the car, except for one detail. You'll need to get a 153-tooth flywheel for the one-piece-rear-main-seal design crank, like from a 83-85 Camaro or Firebird. If your existing T/A clutch is old, now would be a good time to get a new one, and save yourself the trouble of taking it back apart. I have the Centerforce Dual Friction, and I really like it.
You can avoid trashing parts if you restrain the enthusiasm of your test drives somewhat. I have quite a bit more flywheel horsepower than that (400 with a big roller cam) in my daily driver with a T-5; as long as I don't dump the clutch or speed-shift it, the trans is OK. Do either of those things more than a few times and you'll be rebuilding a trans real soon too.

You're right 99, my bad... flywheels are the same. He won't have even that obstacle. Should be a slam-dunk.

RB, I'm going to be dumping a 350 in place of the old LG4 within the next while (boy I keep saying this) and I am realizing now the clutch is somewhat bagged. I have an older T5/Clutch setup, ('83) any recommendations as to a decent aftermarket setup capable of handling the ~350ft/lbs I will be throwing at it?
Later,
Hype.
