how can i remove tranny in the driveway

i have 4 jackstands, 2 ramps, 4 tire dolleys that give a 5 inch lift, a bottle jack that goes 12 inches to over 20 inches, a floor jack, a tranny jack with a wheel missing on a corner, and some spare tire style jacks. got brick and wood laying around and i don't want to pull the motor.

and it's a 700r4 behind a 305 tpi

Jack the car up and put wood under each wheel to get enough clearance to slide the tranny under. make sure you use the jacks just in case.

Re: how can i remove tranny in the driveway

I did it....2x's LOL

I got the entire car up on 2 ramps. But you could do jackstands as well. But for safety, I would do at least 2 ramps up front.
That was 'almost' enough clearance.
I made a cradle out of some scrap wood. 2 2x4's placed longways down the sides of the tranny pan. So that the panbolts were resting on the 2" side of the 2x4's. The 4" will go just below the trans pan line. Then I used a sturdy peice of plyboard in the bottom to tie the 2x4's together. Screwed it all as one. Now you have a secure cradle. I used a std floorjack in the center of my new cradle. You will need it more toward the front since the mass of the tranny and the torque converter weight is off-center.
Unbolted the crossmember from the trans and then from the car.
Un-connected all the stuff like shift linkage, VSS plug and TCC plug.
Disconect the TV cable at the carb ot tb unit.
Unbolted the 2 top bolts 1st from the motor. Found those easier to do from the engine bay with a ratcheting closed-end wrench.
Get some help form a buddy.
Unbolt the converter from the flywheel
Unbolt the rest of the trans to motor bolts.
Pull it back a little, drop the jack a little, pull it back a little,....you get the idea.
Once it was dropped down, I got a double-thick peice of 3ft x 3ft cardboard.
You will need 2 people to lift the trans slightly and push the floorjack out from under it. Then lower the trans onto the cardboard.
The top of the front of the trans was too high to clear the florpan. My car is lowered tho. I had to jack up one side of the car a little to get the cardboard/trans to slide out.

P.S. Do yourself a favor and drain the fluid 1st. It will save you alot of weight.

Reinstelled the same way in reverse. Harder since its awkward for you to lift the tranny on your back upwards at such a weird angle. And then to get the jack under it. I recommend 3 people at least. Tho I did it with just 2.
