They are extremely different. I have done the swap, and I can assure you there is no way to interchange them.

RB83L69- I have an 82 Camaro that had a 4 speed in it. Now it has a t5 from an 87. I'm currently using the manual clutch with this trans, but I don't like it. How difficult was the swap to hydraulic? Can you tell me the parts that I will need to get to do this? I think that the newer clutch would be a better way to go (easier on the left leg, to say the least.) How long did it take you to do the conversion? Do the manual and hydraulic clutch use the same hole in the firewall, or do I need to drill a new hole? Thanks for any info you can give me.

Different....WAAAAAY different.

As for the second question....to swap from mechanical to hydraulic clutch wouldn't be extremely hard.....you'd obviously need the new pedal assy and the hydraulic assy.

The swap wasn't that difficult, but at the time I had the engine out which made it easier.

You have to change the bell housing and pedal assembly. You'll need the hydraulics obviously, and the bracket that holds the reservoir next to the brake master cyl. You can get a complete assembly of the reservoir, master cyl, line, and slave cyl at the dealer for a little under $100. It comes pre-filled and bled. That's what I'd recommend you do.

The hole in the firewall where the linkage goes through is very near the right place for the mster cyl. IIRC I had to enlarge it in the downward direction and toward the outside of the car a little, and drill the 2 holes that the U-bolt thing goes through. The pedals are completely different. I'd suggest going to the boneyard and getting the entire assembly out of a car; you'll get the 2 pedals, the bracket they're in, and 2 additional brackets that connect the pedal pivot bolt to the master cyl which are very important. If you get it yourself you'll have the chance to eyeball it and get measuremants and see how everything goes together. Plus, if you take the car apart yourself, you can get all the right hardware and all that, which will make it much easier to get back together.

The hydraulic is defeintely superior to the mech linkage, I'm glad I did the swap. Very much worth it.

Does the slave mount to the bellhousing? My Haynes manual shows a bracket mounted to the bellhousing bolts. Does anyone have a pic of where it actually mounts? I don't like the idea of yanking the trans out to change the bellhousing. If I did that, I'd probably just use the hydraulic throwout bearing (if I can find one).

It mounts directly to the bell housing. There's a big boss cast off to the side of the BH; it has a large hole for the cyl and 2 small ones for bolts; the cyl mounts into it from the front; there's a large shield type of bracket that wraps around it. So you have to change the BH.

Like I said, go to the junkyard and look at one, and if at all possible take all the parts off of it yourself, that way you'll know exactly what it takes.

I think I might have an extra BH laying around; I'll take a pic and post it if I do.

The throwout bearing is the same in both systems. But there's no choice about the BH, if you want to change it over, it's gotta be replaced.
