Early th700r-4 upgrades

Transmission: Th-700r-4
Axle/Gears: 3.23
Early th700r-4 upgrades

I have a 1983 Th-700r4 I recently brought it used... I put a trans go shift kit it and filter hoping it work has the PO said it worked. But it looks like Im goin to have to rebuild it. While Im rebuilting it. What do I or can I replace to make it better. Like can I convert it to the 30 spline pump...ect...

Probably be easier to find a later tranny. But you can upgrade to the newer parts tho. There is alot more to consider than just the pump tho.

Im picking up a 90 th700r4 (by id number) tommarrow came out of a 1988 s-15 with 4.3L. it was removed a month ago and was driving perfect before till. So all I can do is hope.

Talk 2 Dana about the V6 tranny vs the V8. 4.3 will have the correct bellhousing, but you will want to update it either way

Whats wrong with the 4.3 version. It 30 spline right? and it bolts up?. the number on the side is 0SHM047H. I believe that is right.

The reason I state 1988 and up is that most of the 1987's were still using the early valve bodies. If you want to know if you have an early valve body on a 1987, is look on the separator plate at the large rectangular window hole at the rear of the separator plate. You will find a two letter code. If the first letter is an "A", it is an early valve body style, which is ok for Heavy Duty but not for Street/Strip. If the letter is a "B", which is a late 1987 early 1988, it is fine any type of build. Dana

Installed TODAY... Drives great. I love the overdrive and the lower first gear hehe compare to the th-350.
