AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH MY TRANNY IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!
My car sits for a week and I get to drive it on the weekends. I haven't really had many problems with the tranny before. It didn't want to shift into third until I let off of the gas a little, otherwise the engine would just rev. But that was the only problem I had before.
OK, here's what happened. I'm drivin' along, we are on our way to the movies, got two other people in my car. I notice that on the way to the movies, the tranny doesn't always want to put all of the power into the wheels, it just wants to rev a little, then go into the wheels. We get to the first theater, nothing is playing, so I move my TV cable towards the detent button. That really didn't help. When we stop at the second theater 5 minutes away from the other one, I push the TV cable all of the way towards the detent button and turn the throttle all of the way forward and the cable slams into adjustment.
On the way back, it's doin' the same thing, just a little worse. Later on down the road, we cant really go much past 30-35, after that the engine would just rev. I drop off my friends and pull out the TV cable a little. It drives fine for about 3 minutes. I was even able to spin the tires on the gravel and fishtail. I go out onto the streets and the tranny is acting up again. By the time I get back after playing with the TV cable a couple more times, the tranny completely dies, nothing works. No reverse, no drive, no OD, no first, nothing. I actually pushed my car about 150 feet into the parking spot.
I did notice that the fluid was overfilled.
Do you guys think that it I could just change out the fluid and put in the correct amount and it would be OK?
Do you suppose the transmission is completely gone?
Could it have anything to do with the torque converter?
Thanks,
Jesse

My '69 Camaro's TH-350 had very near the same problem. At about 40 the engine would just rev with no power getting to the rear wheels.
It turned out to be the torque converter, but it also took out my transmission, too.
Hope yours turns out to be not so bad.

Short of my family, there was nothing I enjoyed seeing more than the sun shine down on the black #3 car.
I'm old enough to know better, but still too young to care!--Wade Hayes

It sounds like your tranny is cooked. If it was a seized stator clutch you would accelerate fine but have no top speed. Your engine revving over 30 indicates a tranny not torque convertor problem, it would bog otherwise.
