Type F fluid...

Hey, just thought of this when i saw the trickshift thread below.
Does anyone still believe in using type F fluid in GM trannies. I remember years ago reading about that being the hot ticket in the turbo buick crowd, and if anybody is trying hard to keep a tranny under 'em it's them. But perhaps conventional wisdom has changed since then.
I think the logic was it something like it was heavier/sticker (and also that trickshift was basically type F with purple dye.) than dexron.

The Difference in tranny fluid is that type F contains friction additives to give a firm shift. The B&M fluid is the same except for it has a higher boiling point, and anti-foam inhibitors.

last trans i did i used 1/2 type f and 1/2 dextron. my next trans will have mobil 1 in it. what i use doesn't make it right, i'm an old timer i guess and set in my ways. way back when i first started messing with cars type f was the only way to go.

type F is better,

Use dextron and mod the tranny to get the shift firmness you want(servo, boost valve, shift kit, etc...)

I agree with 82Camaro. I hold a bit of blame to B&M TrickShift for my last tranny dying, altho the way it died didn't have anythign to do with fluid. (TC cracked, piece got wedged in the fluid pump, trans ran dry, etc...) Most of the blame I put on Lee Myles and their "$1400 for 2.5 years" transmission.

Damnit, thats what i get for listening to my dad. Just changed tranny fluid at his shop (farm shop, not auto) and was gonna use type F but he insisted i was crazy and should use the dexron. At the time i believed i was crazy and went with the dexron.
The ****ty part is, we also stole another 2 gallons of the stuff, cuz i need to drop my tranny pan again soon to replace the TCC solenoid (first time was to ID it), now i have to spend money if i want type F...
Does it realy help?
