Clutch hydraulic problems, need help

I have an 88 GTA that has has a BW Super T-10 swapped in, along with the factory F body hydraulic clutch setup. I'm having some problems getting it to work right.

The slave cylinder was replaced and I went through the bleeding procedure for it found in the 88 Firebird service manual 3 times with no luck. If I press on the pedal, it only goes about halfway before it is like pressing up against a wall. It appears to have no air in the system, but I'm horrible at bleeding hydraulic systems. It had a brand new GM pre-bled master cylinder/slave sylinder setup installed this past summer, but that slave cylinder let go. It did the same thing, and my friend rammed his foot down on it and broke the original slave cylinder. He replaced it before we traded cars.

What is causing it to do this? Do I not have it bled properly, or is there something in the clutch giving me problems? It has a new throwout bearing and pilot bearing. The bellhousing is a Lakewood scattershield with an adjustable pivot ball, does that need to be adjusted any? Originally, the car had a thicker flywheel but now it has a thinner one. It has done this with both flywheels.

If anyone out there has any info or help, I appreciate it, thanks

Re: Clutch hydraulic problems, need help

Time for a BUMP with an update, maybe if someone reads this I'll get some help.

Looking at the slave cylinder rod, it looks like it's extended out to the max. This car has a Lakewood bellhousing with the adjustable pivot ball. I spoke to my dad tonight, and we are starting to think that maybe this pivot ball needs to be adjusted to bring the fork closer to the slave sylinder so it can work.

When my friend had this car with the old engine in it and this tranny/clutch setup, he had a thicker flywheel that may have brought the fork into the right spot for the clutch to work. So this week, I'd like to fool with that little pivot ball and see what happens.

If anyone has any advice on this, please let me know!

On a good note, I got the engine running today so that is always a nice start!

Re: Clutch hydraulic problems, need help

I'm gonna give this another bump because I really need the help, and I got more info...

Talked to my friend who installed the tranny and flywheel/clutch. He says the flywheel is a CAT flywheel, p/n 1510. Here are the specs I could find on it:

12.83"OD/153T, L/W18#, 10.0"-10.95" Non Spring Clutches, '55-85

He said the flywheel was a factory replacement Ram clutch, I looked it up and I think this is it:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...58+4294840138+

Summit has that listed as fitting a 82-92 Firebird with a 305/350, which is what I have. So, as far as I can tell, the clutch is good to go. The flywheel should be, too.

With what I supplied, can anyone see a problem with the clutch or flywheel causing my issue? Since it is a thinner flywheel, I am thinking still that the pivot ball needs to be adjusted. I don't know how well that is going to work for me. I can't get to it without pulling the tranny. Has anyone else here managed to do it with the tranny installed?

BUMP TTT and I will continue to bump this to the top until someone helps me. This is now the 2nd thing I have posted here just recently and gotten nothing on, while many others seem to have no problems getting help. What happened to this site
