T-5 Tranny
T-5 Tranny
This isn't exactly an f-body p/u but its a chevy, so its all the same. But anyways, my transmission went out in my p/u recently and its going to cost $1200 to rebuild. I found a T-5 transmission online, its a "world class transmissionI have 3 questions,
First- will this t-5 transmission bolt up to my p/u? Its a 1991 chevy 5-speed/350
Second-What the hell does world class mean?
Third-What is it worth? he claims to have 20k on it since the rebuild.
thanks alot,
any input is greatly needed

Well, it's not really all the same; the trans out of a F car won't fit in a pickup. It's exactly the same, only different.

- 1. That depends on what the trans came out of.
- 2. "World Class" is B-W's trademark for rev. 2 of that trans. Instead of straight rollers on the countergear it has tapered rollers; the intermediate gears have needle rollers instead of bushings where they ride on the mainshaft (strictly a gas mileage thing); and 1st (why I have no idea) and 2nd have composition clutches on their synchro rings instead of brass.
- 3. It's worth what you are willing to pay. They usually go for anywhere from about $300 up to about $750, depending on a long list of factors. For a truck trans, I wouldn't expect to pay more than about $500, considering how many of those there are in the world.

OKay, The T-5 transmission is out of a 1992 camaro, so what your saying is, I need to mod it to fit? Will the input shaft fit into my flywheel, pilot bearing? Will i nee to change the driveshaft adapter that slides into the rear of the tranny? and the mounting.. The cross member on the p/u probably wont work,

Right... mounting is certainly a problem. It's a kind of weird situation. Consider how the clutch fork sticks into the side of the bell housing. It has to go in between the 2 trans bolts. But, in the F cars, if it stuck straight out the side of the bell housing like it does in your truck, it would go right through the driver's right foot. So they rotated the trans about 20° clockwise as viewed from the front, to move the fork below the floor pan. So, the trans mount pad and the shifter are both rotated into a different orientation on the F car trans as compared to the truck one. There's also a possibility that the shifter would be to the front or rear of where the truck's shifter is; I know for sure the S trucks are like that.
If the F car trans is from a V8, then the input splines and pilot should be the same. Everything else is different though.
