If you have wide enough tires to put the power to the pavement without spinning all over the place, you're gonna fry it.

The same 10-bolt is used in the 4th gens, and they handle it ok stock but they can break it too.

Are you sure it's the same 10 bolt with the same gears Kevin? Is it a different 10 bolt than came in the '87? Because if it's the same, it's a damn weak rear. Adding 100 hp to the rear wheels with those 255's would trash the thing pretty quick. At least in my case.

I thought it was the same rear just slightly modified to help it from distorting so much

The 82-89 ten-bolt is 26 spline axles, but otherwise the posi unit is the same style. The 90-92 ten-bolt uses the same posi and gears as the 93-97 ten-bolt. But the rear axle is 4" wider, total, on the 4th gen than the 3rd gen. The 85-89 nine-bolt is stronger yet, but tough to find a good one. Most are 2.77 gears.
