Which valve body?

I have a 1986 camaro, with a 700-R4 tranny. I am doing a trans-go shift kit, and i purchased a used valve body of the "2nd type". This type has an auxiliary valve body in addition to the main valve body.

I haven't taken my tranny oil pan off yet, an I'm wondering if I might have bought the wrong valve body. I have the shop manual for 1986, and it does not show the auxiliary valve body.

My question pertains to the fact that 1986 700-R4's could have been either 1st or 2nd type as far as i know. Is there any way to tell? Or, should I assume I have the 1st type valve body (without the auxiliary valve body as shown in the shop manual) and exchange the one I bought for a 1st type?

I think the auxiliary type and non-auxiliary type are NOT interchangeable.

I will be doing the shift kit on the valve body I purchase to make installation easier.

Thanks in advance,
Joe

The later valve body can't be used with an earlier transmission.

The auxiliary type VB can't be used on a regular case. What was supposed to be so special about it that you were going to change the VB?

You are close. It was '87 that got the AUX Valvbody, w/ a few that didn't get one, not '86. All the '86 700's do not have the Aux Valvebody. The two are NOT INTERCHANGABLE.
