I finally have the $$$ to get my clutch and flywheel for my 6 speed swap and was wondering what clutch yall are running? i dont know which one/brand to get because my other car was an auto and all i had to worry about was the stall. it doesnt have to be the biggest badest clutch man kind has ever known, just one that will handle the engine(not to flashy) in my sig. oh yeah and one that will last. thanks

I am using the McLeod street/strip clutch. Its friction material is carbon fiber/kevlar and asbestos. It cost about $130 when I bought it a few months ago from www.performancess.com I am very pleased with this clutch. It has great holding power. I am also using the LT4 pressure plate. This pressure plate is about as good as anything out there in the aftermarket. It clamps much better than the standard LT1 plate.

The LT4 pressure plate actually came with the tranny when I bought it. I was lucky enough to have found one where the guy had already installed the Centerforce dual friction cluth and pressure plate. The clutch disc was in medium shape and in my opinion not a very good piece. It was very flimsy comared to the McLeod which is a very beefy annd strong disc. The Centerforce pressure plate is actually just an LT4 pressure plate that is painted orange. They also add some small counterweights to it but I don't think they do much. So you'd be better off going to the dealer for the LT4 pressure plate. Not sure on the price but I've heard that it is only slightly more than the LT1 unit and well worth it. As for the Pro 5.0 shifter, I love it. It's not so much the shorter throws but its the solid feel of the shifter. The throws are only slightly shorter than stock. There is room though to cut off about an inch or more of thread from the stick so you can get shorter throws. I will be doing this in a few weeks. You can also order a much shorter stick from some company called Lou's short sticks for about $50. This will dramatically reduce the throws. Check the LT1 forum at www.camaroz28.com to find out more about it. I can't remember the website for the company. The Pro 5.0 shifter is just so solid and so precise. That's what sets it apart. Hope this helps.

Hello fellow Georgian. I tried your link for the Mcleod cluth and it did not work. I want to know how well your clutch works and would work on high horsepower. I have a Richmond five speed I am about to drop in and need a good clutch and pressure plate. You are using a hydraulic clutch aren't you?

Well that is their website. I guess it is down. There are a few more places that I've seen that clutch sold at. www.tbyrnemotorsports.com is one of them. The part # for the disc is 261871. It sells for $140

ok i found it on tbyrne but i got a question. just remember that i havent ever done a clutch before so...do i need one that has shifts up to 7500rpm or is the 5500 rpm just not as good? i dont plan on shifting at more than 5500 or 6000 rpm at most.

The one that says its good to 7500 rpm is just a better clutch. The one that says its good to 5500 is fine but for a little bit more money you can get a clutch with alot more holding power. You will be able to launch better with the one I have because it will grab more solidly without nearly as much slippage. The LT4 pressure plate will add to this also.

I have a McLeod dual friction setup. for $400 you can get the pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and disc. The GM Price on a T/O bearing is 135 alone. It grabs very well. go to Thunderracing.com and go to the "Online cataloge and click on the LT1 section.

I'm running a CLUTCHNET Kevlar/Fiber disc and a new LT-1 pressure plate and T/O bearing. The clutch holds well, but a LT-4 PP is the better way to go, you can get one from Dal Slabaugh for $213.21 at Van Devere Oldmobile (800) 362-9494 ask for Dal. You will also need a LT-1 T/O bearing wih it. HTH's

No, the throwout bearing is included with the pressure plate at that price. I just received mine yesterday, along with a flywheel and a new clutch fork.
