I WILL GIVE YOU GUYS SOME FACTS AND YOU GUYS TELL ME IF I HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF WHICH I THINK I HAVE,A GUY WITH THE HANDLE "442 GUY" WHICH IS ALSO A MEMBER HERE SOLD ME A TRANNY WHICH WAS AN 86 700R-4,I WENT TO PUT THE TRANS IN AND REALIZED THAT MY TC WHICH I BOUGHT FOR AN 86 700R-4 WOULDN'T WORK,WHY?, BECAUSE THE TRANS WAS NOT AN 86 LIKE HE SAID,IT WAS AN 82-84 WITH THE 27 SPLINE,I LET HIM KNOW THAT THE TRANS HE GAVE ME WAS NOT THE RIGHT ONE AND HE SAID THAT AN 86 IS A 27 SPLINE,AFTER SOME RESEARCH HE FOUND OUT HE WAS WRONG,HE TRIED TO CONVINCE ME TO GET A TC FOR IT BUT I ALREADY BOUGHT A TC FOR AN 86 30 SPLINE AND WASN'T GOING TO BUY ANOTHER ONE,I TELL HIM EITHER REFUND MY MONEY OR GIVE ME THE RIGHT TRANS,HE TELLS ME ITS MY PROBLEM AND THAT I SHOULD HAVE COUNTED THE INPUT SHAFT BEFORE I BOUGHT A TC,WHY WOULD I NEED TO COUNT THE SHAFT IF HE SAYS ITS AN 86 AND I KNOW AN 86 WHICH MY IROC IS HAS A 30 SPLINE THAT IS WHY I BOUGHT THE TC IN ADVANCE BECAUSE I PLANNED ON GETTING A 30 SPLINE TRANS,NOT A 27,I THINK ITS HIS MISTAKE AS HE ADVERTISED HE AHD AN 86 FOR SALE AND SOLD ME IT SAYING IT WAS AN 86 AND IT TURNS OUT TO BE AN 82-84,WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK SHOULD BE DONE?,IS IT HIS FAULT OR MINE?HE WONT MAKE THINGS RIGHT OR REFUND MY CASH SO I AM S.O.L. If it was an 84 year transmission this confusion could likely happen because in that year some trans had the lower spline count and some had the 30...
You arn't doing a v6 motor are you?
I wouldn't know what to do in your shoes about this, but if you are making some power you have the least desireable transmission to handle it with on your hands.
If it's a stock 305 or mildly done 305 just exchange the tc and you should be ok unless the guy REALLY ripped you off and sold a piece of sh:t that won't even work to begin with.

thanks for the reply,the guy said it was an 86 700r-4 but in 86 the spline count was never 27 as they did away with the 27 at the end of 84,this guy doesn't understand that the spline count is not all they changed when they went over from a 27 to 30 spline, they changed other things too that is why i dont want the trans but he wont refund my cash or give me the right one,it was his mistake since he said it was an 86 and it wasn't so he should make it right,now i have to pay for his mistake,i have a 86 uroc 305 tpi,click on my name to see my profile and see my homepage,my car is no $hitter so i dont want to put $hit in it,lol.
Perhaps you should seek legal assistance in this matter. Can you locate the guy IRL? (return address on mail, pickup?) He sold you the wrong tranny and I'm willing to bet he knew it too, otherwise he would take it back.

i know the guys e-mail and we have been talking,actually him arguing,but he is trying to put his ignorance on me,he said it was an 86,and it turns out to be the early model 700r-4 with the 20 spline,i wont use it unless its a 30 spline like is supposed to be in my 86,he wont refund my cash which was $220,plus i had to be another trans pan for it,filter gaskeets and synthetic fluid so that all came to $100 plus and i also bought a vette 2500 stall but the tc is for a 30 spline and wont work in this trans because its a 27 spline,i saved all the guys e-mails and in it he says its an 86 and tries to tell me that in 86 it was a 27 spline but everone knows they discontinued it in mid 84,so the guy says its my fault for not counting the spline input shaft before buying my tc,but i told him i planned on getting another 30 spline like my 86 and why would i bother counting the input shaft if its an 86 because i know the 86 is a 30 spline,this guy just doesn't know his stuff i guess or is a scammer,he is on this site and goes by the handle "442 guy",check in the classifieds on this site and you will see my post under iroc kid where i tell people to beware of this guy,it tells the whole story,i am glad you guys care because he doesn't.

IROC KID, I have to side with you all the
way, but the sad part is he took you, the
least you can do is let everyone know this
guy cannot be trusted and if he also sells
in places like Ebay leave negative feedback
and lastly if the trans is operative maybe
you can sell it and get some of your $ back

you can run the trans #s and see what it really is.....
check for the id on the passanger side of the trans it is located toward the back just above the pan.
It is hard to explain where but, just check by the rear corner on the passanger side.
example....( 5 YK M Y 00078524 359 B )
the first # is the year 5 is 85 and 6 is 86 and so on the YK basically says it was for an f-body car this is all you really need to prove what it is but, from what you have already said it is not an 86.

thanks for your support and i am glad you guys see it as i do,this guy just told me to get a 27 spline tc and live with it,what a jerk,he tried turning it around on me,he said i shouldv'e counted the splines,why should i when he said it was an 86 and my car is an 86 and i know an 86 is a 30 spline so i didn't think much of it,but when i went to put it in i realized that it was a 27 because the tc wouldn't work in it because the tc is for a 30 spline 700r-4,he said it doesn't matter because a 700r-4 is a 700r-4,i just cant believe this guys nerve,he advertised an 86 and that was not what he delivered,its his fault because he said it was an 86,he should know his stuff before he sells it,i will take him to court for theft by deception and fraud,it will go to small claims court,i have all the e-mails where he says its an 86 700r-4 and then when he finds out it is not he tries to charge me an extra $120 for the right one i should have had in the first place,when i tell him no deal he says that he doesn't care and tells me basically to get lost and get a 27 spline tc for it,he will pay although,no doubt about it,he sold me something amd claimed it to be something it wasn't,that is deception and fraud.
I'm the guy that sold him that vette TC. I know that one's for sure a 30 spline because I test fitted on an old 700R4 I have in my garage. I think that's really messed up that the guy sold you the wrong transmission though. He should have known what it is he's selling ! If it was me, I'd stop wasting time and try to sell either the tranmission or the TC and get the right part. Personally I'd keep that TC since it's brand new, and get a 30 spline 700R4 that would be stronger anyway. Try to get something newer then 85-86. After 86 is when GM beefed up the 700R4 a little. If you're buying a rebuilt tranny I guess it wouldnt be much of an issue though.

thanks edmond for posting that,this guy just doesn't see his mistake,he says i should just buy a 27 spline tc,why should i when i dont want an 82-84 with the weak *** 27 spline,i want an 86 or something around there with the 30 spline but he is giving me the runaround,he even posted a bunch of b.s. and is trying to turn it around on me,he even states that he took the trans out of an 86 but didn't know it was not a 86 trans, that just shows that it was his ignorance and that it was his mistake for not knowing what he was selling,if you read his post then it will show you that unless he choses to edit them as he always does,even his ads on parts,this guy is either a crook or an idiot who doesn't know his stuff,you guys be the judge,i will try to get the e-mails we sent back and forth since i have them all saved in a file posted so you guys can see them and other people so then people will know the real deal.

i have not turned around anythin,you just said so yourself in you post here that you said you had a 700r-4 from an 86 iroc,so what does that tell people?that its an 86 700r-4,why else would you even bother to say its out of an 86 iroc?,you just make yourself sound stupid,quit while your ahead, no i am not certified to work on a trans but i have a brother who is and he helped me with,he put on the new trans pan as the one you gave me was shot,we did the fluid and filter change also,i dont call that fu%$ing with a tranny but fixing the b.s. you gave me with the pan,but as for the trans in general i am sure it works fine if you say so but you also said it was an 86,why would i ask you if it was a 30 spline if you say its from an 86 when i know an 86 is 30 spline,your the idiot who didn't know what you were selling and sold me the wrong trans,and i am the idiot that shouldn't have dealt wiht you.
