can someone relate trans shift speed and rpm?
can someone relate trans shift speed and rpm?
can someone tell me at what mph and rpm that each gear occurs at. and also tell me how a trans is supposed to shift. i had mine rebuilt with a transgo stage 3 with shift kit. it just doesnt seem to me to downshift when at wot. for example no matter what gear i am in when i floor it lets say i am at 2000rpm and floor it it will wind up to 4500 then downshift. so whenever i floor it the rpms always increase to 4500rpms before it downshifts. is this normal? can someone explains what happen when you floor it at a stand still and a say 35 mph. it seems to really kick in good maybe one out of ten times when i floor it.
Please give us more info, such as what kind of trans you have and engine. Next, when you say stage III, are you saying that it is full manual? If so, it should not downshift at all, and may just be slipping.

If it is downshifting, it is not the stage 3 version (full manual, you must shift it yourself) it is the stage 2 (most common). The TV cable must be set correctly, otherwise you are going to have problems, as you are having now. This assumes that the transmission was built right in the first place. So getting the cable adjustment set correctly is a priority. If you have the GM manual on how to do this would help, if not try this. With the engine off, open the carb/fuel injection unit to wide open throttle. See if you have any slack in the TV cable? You must have 1/8" or less (no movement at all) of play (slack) in the TV cable. If more than this, adjust the cable to correct this. Drive the vehicle, and let us know the results? Then we can help!
i asked for the stage 3 transgo kit so i assume thats what i got. the stage 3 kit says it came with the shift kit and the option of full race-stick shift or full race-automatic. he asked me which way i wanted to go and i told him full race automatic. i got back the shift kit box and it says 700-2&3 stick shift option.also a high rev spring kit came with the kit and was installed also. options i added were vet servo and sythetic fluid, and a furnish blazed torch convertor dont know the stall speed
from the notes i got back from him marked on instructions of the shift kit were:
tv boost valve .422
is vb 1st or 2nd type mines 2nd type
i have an 1988 iroc z with 350 slp cam, headers, tpis intake and other stuff
i just dont understand how this shift kit is supposed to work.
also i noticed that my rpms and mphs arent the same no more. at 75 mph i am at 3000 rpms in d i have a 2.77 rearend. if i remember correctly the rpms were never that high at that speed. if you can tell me how that shift kit is supposed to work please tell me
