Anyone run the continental TC ???
Anyone run the continental TC ???
I was planning on buying the 12" slp TC, I just don't want to lay down the money for the PI vigilante. On the Pro-built web site I've noticed the 10" continental TC, anyone have it ? Further, I think, in the past, I've read somewhere that the torque multiplication of the continental is in the neighborhood of the PI unit, is this correct. I guess I'm looking at ~370 v. ~700. Thanks for any input.
When the stalls are kept on the low side (2,200-2,600 rpm stall), (Continental 10" & PI's 9.5") the torque converters have a high torque multiplication ratio (2.1-2.5 & sometimes higher). Both are good TC's. Depending on what you want?, type of driving?, rear end gear ratio?, gas mileage?, etc. As you see there are many different variables.

Thanks Pro-built. Now, in your "opinion," would you recommend the 2X$$ PI over the continental for a set-up on a mild L98 car. I'm looking at the ~2600-2800 stall speed range with 3.27 rear and 89 700r4. The car will stay a LTR tpi car and is not daily driven.
Thanks again . . .
Thanks again . . .
I would not use the Continental non-lockup 10" with a 2,600-2,800 rpm stall with 3.27's. It will make overdrive act slippery, and you would not like it. If you had 3.90-4.11's then this TC would work ok. If you are going to stick with the 3.27's, then I would use the ACT torque converter. It is very similar to the 9.5" Vigilante, but somewhat less in price. It is a 9.5" lockup available in stalls from 2,400-3,200 rpm. The cost on this one is $525.00. I have checked out these TC's & found there work (ACT) to be very reliable. The coverters come with a one year warranty & a free stall change if desired.

Thanks again for your answers. I have another question if you don't mind. How similar are the ACT and PI ? Like in SLP/Yank similar ? I guess it may be better to just do the PI and not have any second guesses ? Do you think it would be better to just pay the extra 150.00 for the PI ? I really do respect your opinion on these matters as your reputation and knowledge seems to be second to none.

The ACT & PI are very similar from what I have seen, using pretty much the same parts in the torque converter. He offers the same one time (no charge) stall change & one year warranty.
