I installed my new trans this weekend and i made a dumb#$s mistake. Everything went well until i went to pop the torque arm on the bracket and bolt the other part of the bracket over the torque arm. It was then that i realized that i had the upper bolt for the bracket in backwards, instead of the nut end going thru the bracket i had the bolt end thereby preventing me from bolting the outside piece of the bracket over the torque arm. I do not want to have to drop the trans to get this turned around. I was thinking of popping the distributor out, taking the crossmember off and seeing if i could get the tailshaft low enough to pull that bolt out. If anyone has any ideas or advice it would be appreciated.

I'd try just what you said first - pull the distributor and lower the tranny as far as you can - you may be able to wedge it over to one side with a piece of wood as well to give you enough room... Good luck with it...

I've done the exact same thing on the last 2 that I've had out! I did pretty much the same thing you have said!
Good Luck!

All you need to do is raise the rear of the vehicle as far as you can, remove the driveshaft and the tailshaft housing (four bolts). You may have to unbolt the transmission crossmember and lower it slightly to access the top two bolts.
The torque arm bracket is bolted to the tailshaft housing and will slide easily off with the housing. Because you are only raising only the rear, there will be no fluid loss (actually, you will lose a couple of drops).

Willie's method works the best....just take the tailshaft housing off. It is a HECK of a lot easier than dropping the trans, or trying to pry on the trans... If you try the prying method, not only do you risk messing up the distributor, but you WIll break your Oil Pressure Switch/Oil pressure gauge tube that comes out of the back of your intake, and let me tell you....that is a huge mess.

I had to change the whole mount on my car so I took off the distibutor cap and the croassmember bolts and lowered with everything still hooked up. I was able to pull the old mount out and put the new one in with no prob. I didn't touch the drive shaft at all.
