Strongest posi?

I cannot afford a 9" ford or 12 bolt Chevy rearend. So I have to make my 1983 Z28 rearend capable of withstanding 3500 RPM launches on DOT street tires. Is this possible? I know the axles can be upgraded to 28 splines but what posi would be able to take that kind of punishment and survive? Can this be done? Thanks

I vote for the auburn unit with 28 splines for the street and track duty (dead stop slam foot to the floor driving) as prolly the strongest for the 7.5

The torsen will prolly stand your street abuse though, and the price justifies at least trying it first although if you plan on slicks or severe off the line stuff the torsen isn't the best at taking these shock loads unless you get the heavy duty unit.

For strength, don't get a posi. Powertrax locker will work great. Weld the axle tubes to the housing, use a reinforced cover, put in new bearings, and install some strong gears. How much torque are you producing at your launch RPM? Most likely you will rip the little ring and pinion apart before anything else. If you are running a stick, make sure you 'preload' the drivetrain before you launch so that the forward backlash is 0. If you launch without doing that the gears will smack together and could self destruct.

I am launching at 3500 RPM. My engine was dynoed at 433 lbs.-ft. torque at 3700 RPM. The dyno was not a wheels dyno. The engine was not in the car yet. With that powertrax locker, will it function on the street or is it really noisy? I do use this for daily driving, so the differential has to be able to compensate for the street then for the track on weekends. Now what are your thoughts?

Powertrax is very streetable. I drive mine almost every day in the summer with a powertrax I installed over 4 years ago. In a parking lot, going slow and turning hard I can hear a clicking noise in the rear. It's not loud at all. The first hundred miles it's louder(until it breaks in).

If you want it quiter, the offer the powertrax no-slip system. However, the lock-right locker is plenty quit for street use and the no-slip system is more expensive.
http://www.powertrax.com/locker.htm. Do live near nebraska. I'd take you for a drive, I know a couple of minutes in my old 82 would convince you it's streetable and offers serious traction.
