Tranny doesn't switch into 2nd ---- HELP!!!

Hey people,

I have this very annoting problem with my 86 TA 305TPI 700R4. When I floor the gas off idle, it goes through first gear real strong but when it should switch to second, it just stays in 1st and revs up the RPM's uselessly... Finally it switches into 3rd and starts pulling again.

With my tranny like I was trying to get away from my dean in his 6-banger Accord and couldn't pull away!!! (I really should stop speeding in the school parking lot) I barely even beat my friends 4-banger Galant...

Also when I let go of the gas for a split second during acceleration sometimes (but not always) it switches into 2nd like it should.

Does anybody know aht this could be, and more importantly can I repair this myself, or do I need to dish out the mullah for a proffesional reapir job?

Could this be casued by the TV cable being too loose?

Thanks

-Max

Nope, not related to the speedo.

It sounds like your band is worn out. There are a couple other possibilities like bad seals on the servo, but if you have high miles... Time for a rebuild.

The car has 96K on it, so its not that old. If I do decide to get a rebuild, can it make my tranny stronger? Also about how much will it cost?

BTW Should I continue driving the car with this problem, or is driving making the problem worse?

There are alot of things that could be done to make them stronger, as for price... It varys on who does the work. $750-$1500 seems to be the range on a mild performance rebuild outright (no core)

As for rebuild kits about $220 for frictions and about $100 more for the other disposable parts plus replacement of worn hard parts.

I have the same problem, mine occurred one night when I floored it off the line and from then on to present it seems to stick in first only but when I let off the gas it will shift and is fine through the rest of the gears. I have a question for one of the responses, how much trouble is to change the servo seal? I want to try to fix this problem, if possible, without dropping the trans. Where is that seal anyways?
