Reverse input clutch wear...(how mush is too much)
OK, while inspecting the parts coming out of the tranny befor a rebuild i didn't notice anything bad.
After cleaning, the only part i'm concerned with is the splines for the reverse input clutch (outer)
It looks like the belleville plate slammed a notch into the splines. Not everywhere though, it seems wear is unequal though the circle, maybe 33% on thrust, 33% on coast, and the rest looks like the steel rammed into the spline (not tooth wear but the actual face of the spline)
I took the drum to work and resurfaced the outside (for flatness) and never even looked into it until today. The top ridge of the piston sealing area looks like ocean waves (the seal wear pattern (more like a mark) is 1/2 way down from there, so seal leakage isn't a concern))
Should I change it? If so (I hope the answer is yes, because i don't like the way it looks... rest of parts looks a o.k.) is there a better part to replace it with? The stamped steel inner part looks changable, but not really. Can I weld cold rolled steel keyway in there (to match the steel splines)? The whole gm setup here looks real cheap and thats not as cheap as I am (if I can make it better) but I don't want to skimp on something that may break 1/2 way through its useful life.
By the way, I can see steels impacts up to the 5th steel.
If I have to stick with a gm piece, does anyone have the part number?

Swap it for another stock piece, and replace the Bellville spring, and all other steels that splined to the RIH, and stop "gunning" it in Reverse!

Wow you dug this one out of the archives! I already finished the tranny about a month ago. I got a new one from gmpartsdirect.com and it costed $45.
