700R4 Stuck In 2nd Gear??!?? PLEASE READ/HELP!
Since June of 2008 my IROC has been through THREE! 700R4's. The engine is the L98 350 TPI with headers and hypertech chip being the only mods done to the engine. I just put in, last weekend, a remanufactured (by hydromatic) 700R4 transmission. It shifted great all week long and all day and night friday night, I didnt drive it Saturday, but today, Sunday, it shifted great from 1st to second gear, but is now stuck in second gear. It shifts great from first to second, but once its in second it wont come out of 2nd unless it downshifts itself into first, which it does normally. Like i said in the earlier, this is the 3rd trans since JUNE! Could it be all these transmissions being junk or could it be something else? The remanufactured trans has 10k miles on it, and like i said it ran GREAT all week, now this. I am tired of all the trans work... PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME, PLEASE! The IROC is a 1985, but the engine is from a 1987 TRANS AM GTA and the transmission is from a 1987 IROC, which also had the L98 engine. If anyone knows anything please let me know before I go crazy (and bank rupt)! Thanks a ton! (PS each trans has had a separate tourque converter everytime, no converter was used ever more than once, and each converter came with the trans that it was supposed to come with)! Thanks again...

I would take the transmission to a shop and get a warranty at this rate. wow... three in a row. I think it's another bad trans. If the used one had 10k on it at installation and went bad that is not unbelievable as used transmissions sit around until they get used again causing issues to say the least. just because it was a "hydromatic" reman doesn't mean that real good parts were used in the first place. Most of the good automatics are good because they have been upgraded-not stock. I'd check the easy stuff first like the plastic governor gear for apple core(wears in the middle), a stuck governor(valve doesn't move), t.v. adjustment, fluid level running in park, and if all that is good pull the pan. might help diag.
