Anyone worked on front brakes of a 4th gen?

My girlfriend's 4th gen supposedly needs new brakes very badly, and she wants me to do it... as a personal rule I've never done brakes on anyone else's car... so I'm not sure if I want to do these (couldn't take the guilt)...

BUT- how close are they to our 3rd gens? I assume the front wheel bearings are probably sealed so I don't have to touch 'em... do I just need the hex socket & a C-clamp for "business as usual"?

Thanks...

Tom, I may be saying something very wrong and obvious.. but i figure the input counts for something I do know that my uncle had his ABS brakes worked on at one time, and the guy didnt do something right, and wound up doing 1500$ of damage to them. Now, since this was like 5 years ago, i think its ok if i say that i cant remember exactly what it was, but i think the guy forgot to disconnect something before fiddling w/them. In any case, yea, i'd leave it up to the right people, although it may cost some. Now, that being said from me being very inexperience, especially dealing w/ABS brakes, im ready to be railed for my usless 2¢

4th gen brakes have all that traction control stuff and are much more complicated then thridgen brakes. if you dont know what your doing dont do it. you could really screw things up.

Just get a haynes manual and get after it. Never ever own a car without owning a manual for it, even your girlfriends. It's not that hard to do brakes and the systems are basicly the same. The manual will tell you about the ABS triggers and anything else you might run into.

Pretty close to the same, but if I remember correctly, the rotors just slide on, not held on by the wheel bearings. The only ABS/Traction control component at the wheel, would be the wheel speed sensor. Not a big deal, just don't bang into it or anything like that.

Really! Hm, maybe I will... it's funny, her parents won't let me touch the car for an oil change or tuneup, but they'll give it to me for brakes!? That's why I don't have a manual by now... they won't let me touch the car- everything gets done by the dealer- go figure! You'd think my 7+ years of keeping my +215,000 mile car alive would count for something...

I changed rear discs on my 94 Z about 2 yrs ago. As long as you don't damage the sensors you'll be fine, like JP84Z430HP said. It was pretty easy. Just use the C-clamp method like you said, but be careful where it sits on the back of the caliper.
