Some hang time when shifting from 1st to 2nd

Ok i have a problem. I have a 88 camaro w/ a 305 tpi, 700r and B and M ratchet shifter in it. When i drive the car hard there is hesitation when shifting from 1st into 2nd gear. Its not slipping it just doesnt engage as fast as it should. I did a search on here about this and one post said it could be the accumulator spring broken. If you guys think thats what this is,is there a DIY type thread anywhere?
