OVERDRIVE VS DRIVE????

WHEN DO I USE OVERDRIVE VS REGULAR DRIVE? IS THERE BETTER GAS MILEAGE USING ONE OVER THE OTHER? SHOULD I FEEL A DIFFERENCE IN DRIVING WHEN USING OVERDRIVE?

As long as the TV cable is set properly you can just leave it in O/D and the tranny will take care of when to use it and not to.
That being said I would recommend for driving below @40 MPH to use the D position. The reason is that onpe of the weak points in the 700 is the input sprag. Not that it is bad, just that by nature, a sprag will wear, sort of like a tire. In O/D, 4th gear the sprag is overrunning and that is when it wears along with when it reengages.

SO HOW DO I KNOW IF THE TV CABLE IS SET PROPERLY? ALSO HOW DO I KNOW IF THE INPUT SPRAG IS WORN OR WEARING BADLY?

To adjust the TV Cable skip the book method and do this: Press the D button on the adjuster and loosen the cable setting. Now, have someone floor the gas pedal while you check to see if the throttle plate is open all the way. Usually they are off a little and will wiggle. Do whatever you have to do to get it open solid. Now, with the pedal floored, press the D button and pull the cable back as hard as you can and release the button. You now have the engine, tranny and gas pedal all in sync at WOT. Mark the cable so if for some reason it gets moved you can know where to put it again. The problem with the 'self adjust method' is that it bends things and puts them permanently out of whack. It is also the full TV setting, which is theoretically what the GM method does.

As far as the sprag goes, when the problems start to show up, the test to see if it is bad can wipe out some parts due to them spinning at multiples of engine speed. WHen you kick down from 4th to 3rd the sprag has to reapply under high load. If you experience a rev/bang doing this, STOP! The lower the rear end gearing the quicker the sprag wears.

any way, when in town driving I put it in D. when highway driving i use OD. if you not going to be going faster then 45mph leave it in D or you trans will keep trying to shift into OD.

It is best to follow the method I posted above if you have any doubts. These parts do tend over time to change due to heat and stress.

You will only feel sometning if you are up to a speed where 4th will come in. Otherwise it will stay in whatever gear you are in.

I usually just keep it in OD. Better gas mileage in OD. As for the rest, its an automatic, it will take care of everything else on its own. But when I want to take off or something I downshift to D and pound it. This usually puts me back into the seat.

Follow the adjustment procedure (as I posted above) to the letter and see what it does.
