B&M Megashifter Question

I bought a mega shifter, but like a dumbass I went to schucks and just bought one, then realized it's not a console one. My part number is BMM-80690. Will it fit/work?
Also, I have a 1986 SC Camaro and it has the round shift ****. How the hell do I get that off of there? I also have a TH350 tranny. Not that, that should make much difference.
Thanks.

350 .060 over, XE268H Comp cam, Edlebrock
Performer Intake and Edlebrock 600 CFM Carb,
Pete Jackson noisy GearDrive (which sounded
cool for about 5 minutes, now I'm sick of it)
Rebuilt TH350, 3.42 Rear Gears. LCA RLB's.

I'm sure you can make it fit. But it's going to take some modification and unless you're really good at fabrication it probably won't look as nice.

Actually, it won't need any more modification to fit than the console version. I think the only real differences are the instructions and the console plate (chrome instead of black with matching screws).

That's what I was thinking. The plate is different. I'm gonna put it in. Can't be that hard. Also gonna try and use the original cable too. I just don't want to have to cut any of the plastic console up.

Thanks...

I think the shifter hight is different.
I put the very same shifter as you did 'bhaas' in my '82.

I may be wrong, but my car is gutted, and the shifter sits on the old shifer plate as the stock one (get ready to drill), and it sits up pretty damn high.

That is pretty high. Thanks for the pic. I'll probably get started on this, this afternoon. I don't have any probs drilling holes. Got all the tools I need. Dosen't look very fun though.

It looks higher than my console shifter. I just put it in and it is still a bit higher than stock but it is just right.

Oh yea 'bhaas' I'm considering welding in a better plate, since the stock one to me seems sort of thin. (I plan on road racing this shifter). Still need a welder I'm looking at an oxy setup - cheap, and I can weld a cage with it also.
Other mods might be a round shifter ****, and a heavy duty SHORTER cable.

Just call B&M and buy the "short stick" from them.. it's a service part, in case anyone snaps their stick (wow) while racing, you don't have to buy a whole new shifter.

Ron, welding that with a torch isn't a good idea. That is gonna get hot and may cause it to warp. Get a wire feed welder if you can. I cut the cable bracket off my old shifter and welded it onto the mega shifter. I cut the one off the mega shifter to weld the old one on. Worked awesome. Here is a pic of it.
Which wires are for the reverse lights? are they on that plug with about 6 wires on it?
Thanks.

Is that your welding table? Nice... I need to buy/make one... I'm MIG welding on top of an old wooden crate!

Thank you. It's just an $88 Craftsman table. I thought the nice metal surface would make a good ground. And it does
Easy to burn through I'm sure. Before that I was welding on my firewood box on a piece of sheet metal. Always worried about starting a fire
