stock shift light??
stock shift light??
anyone that has a 5 speed knows whatim talking about. this annoying light that flashes "upshift" at like 2 grand. what can i do about this besides removing the bulb? can i make it wait longer until a different RPm or could i put a resistor in line with the bulb. i dont know if anyone has messed with this before but any ideas or help is appreciated.

You need to get a custom chip specially programmed to change it. I have mine come on at 2300 RPMs to shift while cruising, and 5300 RPMs at wide open throttle. Stock is 1000 RPMs and 4900 RPMs.

I made own "chip". Basically it is self contained in the guage cluster (lots of room behind the indivdual metal plates themselves and the back of the plastic housing. I ran a voltage comparator circuit and inbetween is a resistor (soon to be variable), it comes on at about 3,000. It's just a reminder incase I'm not paying attention and start reving high. I'm also on working on a second circuit to active ate a down shift lite (I have an extra guage pod, took the shifter thing out, turned it upsidedown and blacked out the word shift) but that could prove to become rather annoying fast...
I'm going to try and make schematics of it when I get the time

OK I hate the light as well, and maybe this can help u.
Here is what my owners manual says about it:
If your vehicle has a manual transmission, there may be a shift light on the instrument panel. This light will show when to upshift for best fuel economy at any acceleration.
When this light is on, shift your transmission to the next higher gear weather, road and traffic conditions permit. For maximum fuel economy, accelerate slowly and shift when the light goes on. When more performance is needed , accelerate as desired and shift when the ligt goes on.
Downshifting one or more gears may be required to keep the engine running smoothly or to maintain satisfactory performance. When downshiftingto a lower gear, the light may come onfor a moment if the accelerator pedal is not released completely. Disregard this light during a downshift.
The onboard computer makes the "SHIFT" light work. This computer knows how fast the engine is going and how hard it is working, how fast the car is going, and how far the accelerator is pressed down. It uses this information 10 times every second to decide if you could get better fuel economy by shifting to the next higher gear.
When the accelerator is released, it is normal for the light to be off.
While accelerating, it is normal for the light to go on, off, and on again if you quickly change the position of the accelerator. In essence, if you change your mind, it will too and it will respond very quickly.
