12 bolt into 3rd gen .

The 12 bolt has no torque arm provision , the torque arm provision will be fabricated , so we'll see how that goes. Some pics

Looks like you have the fabrication skills to get this done. Be interesting to see how you do the torque arm. If you look at the pics I posted on the 2nd page of the 8.8 swap thread on this board, you'll see how I went about it. - I highly recomend just building a custom tq arm. Much easier/more effective than trying to fab a mount just to get back to the stock type arm.

Put a set of ladder bars on it and you're done.

why ruin a perfectly good car? If he intends to street drive it much, you definitely don't want ladder bars, and doing so kills the car's value.

Nice job on the MIG welds btw. looks good.

Oh, I can't take credit for the fab work. This work is being done by a shop. He is charging 1700. for all work . Not bad

at $1700, I hope you had very little $ in the 12-bolt and you already have the gearing and axles you need. If not, you'd have been ahead to get a bolt-in from moser or strange.

Re: 12 bolt into 3rd gen .

That's what I was thinking. For another $500 you could have had a stronger rear end, completely assembled with an Eaton posi and gears of your choice and it would bolt in without any modifications. The Chevelle 12 bolt housing would have sold for around $300, so you would have only been out about $200 more.

Re: 12 bolt into 3rd gen .

With a posi, the bolt-in aftermarket units are $2500 or more, so $500 plus selling/not buying the stock housing.

I fully agree on the aftermarket bolt-in unit being a nice upgrade, not only in good internals, but better housing as well.

Re: 12 bolt into 3rd gen .

you may want to talk to "cam" i beleive it is. He is in the Ontario section often on this board.

He successfully installed a ford 8.8 into his thirdgen, and mentioned something about making a jig to do it. You seem to have the fab skills, but if you dont get the geometry right, it will mean nothing.

That's 1700 for everything. I did looking into the bolt ins available just that this guy quoted 1700 and I took it. Saving me about 800$ . For most it would be better going with the bolt on swaps available but this was a better deal for me. If the fab work don't hold up then later on you guys can do a to me. This 12 bolt is going in this

Thats not a bad deal. Should work well for you if the guy can fab the mount up well. A Gm 12-bolt housing will not be nearly as weld friendly as a 8.8 housing, which is why I woud reccomend some sort of bridge brace that ties to the axle tubes as well as the housing, like I did.
