t-5 slave cylinder??? did it need to be shimmed

i have installed a 95 slave/master cyl. assy. on my T5. My question is did any of you have to "shim" the slave cylinder with washers? My clutch seems to engage really early. It starts to pull forward about 1 inch from the bottom. Other than that it works great thnx

Well the regular shifting system one the 3rd gens do not have a "slave cylinder" they have a porce piston to actuate the clutch fork. Later models no clue.. never had to work on them. But the one in my 92 did not have any shims, 2 bolts on/off. works fine.

I'm not sure what you mean about them not having a slave cylinder. That's the only thing I've ever heard it called.

1" from the floor doesn't sound unacceptable to me, for a brand new clutch.

just out of curiosity, why are you running a 95 clutch setup on your thirdgen?

well i was told the 3rd gen version was discontinued. Also the 4th gen uses a braided steel line for the line.

Thirdgens do to have a slave cylinder. It's the little thingy that actuates the clutch fork.

Did you bleed the slave cylinder? That would be the first thing to do. It's not hard, in fact it's just like bleeding brakes. Is the clutch still progressive? If it grabs all at once or drags it could be in the way the disk is installed.

My clutch starts grabbing at about the same point so it could be completely normal, but are you sure your running a T-5 with a pull style clutch?

that's cool. I was thinking the 4th gen used a different mounting setup for the master cylinder. bygones...

Last I checked you could still by the slave cylinder from the parts stores, but it's been a while. Is the 4th gen the same besides the hose dimensionally? functionally? I might need to use this this info soon (if I put a manual in my auto car).

thanks
Clem

No. The T-56 in the 4th gens uses a pull style clutch, thirdgens use a push stlye.

hmmmmmm. I know others have installed this before, i just can't find it in the archives. It is working just fine now. No problems. Come to find out my clutch pedal was not fully engaging( it would hit one of the mount bolt for the master cylinder). I bent the pedal a little and it works great. I think maybe the 96 and up used the different style setup. thnx
