too 9 bolt or too 10 bolt?????

Hello again, i am again forced to make a decision. I have a 10 bolt shell and a 1985 eaton locker, and a full 10 bolt rebuild kit. Now the axles are 26 spline. I don't have gears, a diff cover( aluminum w/ bearing bolts), or a decent posi( though the eaton may last for ever ,). I have 9 bolt 2.77 now, and besides the posi being tired it has served me well. I have a chance to buy a 1987 3.27 9 bolt discs for $200.00. My questions (is/are) should i get a 90,000 mile 9 bolt with a good reputation and the gear size i am looking for or should i dump twice that much into my 10 bolt. I gotta make my move quickly though. Also the car is a T5, 350. Thnx i await your responses. THE SHAGGY IROC

The nine bolt is stronger...that is what I have in mine and it and the T-5 have held up.

9 bolts are far superior to 10 bolts, They have a 30% higher torque capacity and they come with bolt in axles from the factory vs. the 10 bolts c-clips. Their downside though is that they cost more for parts and they aren't as numerous in junkyards. Sell the 10 bolt. Trust me!
I'd use the 3.27 9 bolt rearend. When I switched the 2.77 rearend to a 3.27 rearend in my car I immediately noticed the difference. If the 2.77 rearend is an 89 up disc brake rearend. I'd take the brakes off of it and switch them with the ones off of the 87 9 bolt. If your car is an 89 up with rear discs you won't have to change anything on your car (like e-brake cables or prop. valve) just the parts on the rearends which is easy. You could then sell the 2.77 rearend.

For what it's worth... I tossed my 84 10-both w/ 3.23 and drum brake into the garbage! I got a 86 (or so) 9-bolt w/3.27 posi (sometimes) and disk brakes for $200. I don't worry about it now...

What do you mean, that parts are going to be available for them soon? Is someone trying to import 9 bolt parts?
