If you have a lockup convertor this will work for you , your car being a '90 it should be a lockup . what this does is over rides your factory lockup so you can lock it when you want but with the switch off it will opperate as normal .

Re: Little confused has anyone else did this????
All 700R4s have lockup converters stock, going back to the first one in 1982. This system allows you to lockup the converter any tiem you want. Typically the 700R4 only locks up in 4th gear at cruising speed. A locked converter is more efficient and uses less fuel. This system allows you to lockup the converter in other gears like if you are cruising in the city at 25MPH and only in 3rd you can lockup the converter to get better fuel milage.

Re: Little confused has anyone else did this????
so what happens if you have a stall converter?
will this still work if the car was a TPI but is now a Carb and all the wires from the original harness (well almost all) are cut and tucked down inside the fender?
just to be sure... this is ok to race with it on?
can you turn it on while moving or do you have to be at a complete stop before engaging?

Re: Little confused has anyone else did this????
As with any raceing it can be hard on the trans . If you have an electrical plug on your trans it is lockup and if i'm not mistaken you have to replace a lockup converter with a lockup converter even if it is a stall converter .

The guy in the link only talks about second so that may be the only gear you can fell the difference in .

Re: Little confused has anyone else did this????
You will not feel much of a difference because it only drops the RPM about 300 RPM. The lock up is designed for fuel economy and increases the efficiency of the transmission.
You want to only use the lock up when you are at a cruising speed in a high gear (3rd or OD) and DO NOT try and use it when taking off.
Some people use the lock up for racing. I have done this many times in my Turbo 6 cars. The TCC will not work at WOT in a stock car. The trick is to manualy lock it in hight gear (3rd) to help increase the amount of power to the tires (reducing slipping in converter) and helps with ET about a tenth or so. Keep in mind this is really hard on the TCC and will make it wear out a lot faster.
To determine if yours IS working watch the tach when you turn it on and off at a constant speed/rpm and see if the tach moves up and down a few hundred RPM. If this is the case it is working. If you have a factory car and everything is original you can test the TCC by pressing light on the brake pedal when driving a constant speed (do not ket off the gas) and see if the tach raises a feww hundred RPM. When you let back off the brake it should decrease RPM.
Hope this helps!
