is my tranny gone?

ok, transmission mount broke free last night while accelerating, the transmission came up and smacked the floor pretty good. After that, the engine reved up to 3,500 rpms, like it was in neutral. I slowed to a stop, shifted it to park, and back into drive, it engaged. I gave it gas and it just sat there untill the rpms got up to about 3,500, then it started to creep (about 5 mph). The car won't go over 5 mph. It actually engages in reverse and drive because you can feel it, but it won't move unless you get on it, and then its top speed is 5, it doesn't upshift or anything. Fluids full, adjusted the tv cable, it was ok. I can't get under the car till sunday, I'm going to check the tv cable and make sure I didn't pull it off when the mount broke. Anything else I should look for? any help is graetly appreciated because I am lost in the world of transmissions, (and poor!) Thank you! ps, its an 87 iroc with a 700r4!

just a thought but I just read in another post that there is a four pronged connection on the transmission that controls torque convertor lock up, if I pulled that connection loose when the transmission jumped up, would that cause the problems I'm having? Thanks

Absolutely not. That connector really doesn't do anything untill highway speeds. One wire goes to the 4th gear swith and the other to the Torque converter solenoid to lock it up at highway speeds. This will not effect "in town" driving at all.

Its hard to say what broke, its very unusual. Any odd noises? Reverse is just as bad as foward?

forward and reverse are exactly the same, screwed. No odd noises at all, you wouldn't know untill you stepped on the gas, and the car didn't move. Could this be caused by the tv cable coming off? somebody suggested a bad torque converter? Thanks for the reply GMTech!!. Are there any troubleshooting procedures that would help me out?

Its possible the torque conveter is bad, but I don't see how a bad tranny mount would cause it. Are you sure it is full of fluid? My one distant friend had a similar problem, and went as far as hooking up a pressure guage, and we diagnosed it as a pump problem, only to have him email me back that he was 7 qts low.

yeah, she's full of fluid all right. I'm not thinking that the tranny mount caused all this, but I definatly think it helped since the two incidents happend within moments of each other. I really hate to bring it to a transmission shop, the one's around here are very expensive, and seem to always wind up causing more problems. Damn, I wish I had more mechanic friends.
