t5 and 9 bolt question
I have a t5 that came out of an 87 firebird. I have everything taken off of it, even the bellhousing. I can't get into 1st or 2nd gear. I can feel everything else. What does this mean?
I have a 9 bolt rear that I had to replace the housing on.. which means I put it together. I don't know if i have the pinion gears 100% right.. and it's leaking out of the passenger side. What do I do? or what type of place could I bring it to?
Any help on either of these questions is greatly appreciated

Re: t5 and 9 bolt question
1st / 2nd gear share an engagement synchro, that also turns the REV idler when engaged. It could be a broken/bent 1/2 shift fork, or the synchro keys for 1/2 are broken and have the slider locked up.
Either way, it sounds like it needs a teardown and rebuild.

Re: t5 and 9 bolt question
That's what I was afraid of. I have been looking at rebuild kits..most of them don't cost much. Which one do you guys prefer? I'm keeping my 305, plan on modding it, and not a hard driver, so this trans should work fine for me.

Most all the parts are Tremec, so you just look for the best price for what you need....

Thanks! That helps out a lot..I have never done a transmission rebuild before, but from what I have researched on this trans, it's not that all that hard.. just many small parts to keep up with.

Re: t5 and 9 bolt question
About the rear.. I need to know if there is any way I can make sure I alligned the spider gears correctly with the rear out of the car.. does locking one side and seeing how much torque it takes to spin the othere side have anything to do with it? is there another technique anyone knows?
Re: t5 and 9 bolt question
I don't understand what you are asking. Did you replace the rear end housing or the differential case? If you replaced the differential case then you need to put the axles in both sides before you tighten the bolts that hold the case together. If you replaced the rear end housing then there are many things that need to be set, such as the pinion depth, bearing preload and backlash.

Re: t5 and 9 bolt question
It was the rear housing that I replaced..so I had to take everything out of the old one and put it in the new one..(old one was bent). Axles are straight though. So I need to know the best way you can tell me to adjust the pinion depth and everything else and how to tell that I got it right.
Thanks
Thanks
