Desperate! T-5 speedo gear part #/colors
Desperate! T-5 speedo gear part #/colors
I *really* hate to ask this, but........
I have a T-5 in with 3.23's. I have gathered that I need some combo of the following:
7 tooth drive gear, 19 tooth driven (which I have)
or 8 and 20's.......
Sound about right?????
I managed to find a list of part numbers and the gear colors, but I lost it. And I can't get back to it again.
HELP!!!!

7/19 is the stock 3.42/3.45 gear combination, you need the 7/18 combo, which is tough to find. Search this board, the part numbers have been posted as I found them once before.

Kevin is right, the 18 would work. But if you do the math:
20.168 * 3.23 * 7 / 25.65 = 17.77
Rounding 17.77 up is 18, but the 19 would give you a little more breathing room with the speedo. And since you already have those in your possession....
By the way, this is assuming you are running a 245/50/16 tire.

With your current 25.43" tires, you would need a 7T drive and 22T driven gear. I am sorry I dont have any color or part numbers for you. If you do an archive search, they may have been posted in the past.

I thought the 7 tooth and 21 tooth was the combo for 3.73's stock from the factory?

Kevin, that would be correct for the stock 245/50/16 (25.65") tall tire, but he is running a slightly shorter (25.43) tire, requiring him to up the driven gear from 21 to 22.
In this case, the actual number of the driven gear per the equation is 20.7. Yes, he could round up to 21, but the 22 gives him the breathing room for error (again).
For anyone else wondering, the error would be something like doing 66-67 when the speedo reads 65 (for the 21 gear), and actually doing 63-64 with the speedo reading 65 (for the 22 gear). Your speedo will never be dead on accurate, so giving yourself a little bit more room for error will help you avoid that **** retentive officer.
Glenn has a better grasp of the percentages of errors than I do if you wanna ask him.
Sorry, Glenn.
