T56 and Carb
T56 and Carb
Im looking into the possibilties of building a 350 carb engine. I also want to swap in a T56. Will there be any problems with running that tranny behind a non computer controlled engine. Ive read the tech article but that was for a TPI Iroc. Any information regarding the swap would be helpfull? I want to know as much as possible.
Thanks

from the hours of reading posts and tech articles on this forum, i would say there should not be any problem since the only electrical connections are back-up lights and that switch that allows you to crank the engine only when the clutch is in.
the only problem other than the crossmember that i could see is hooking up the speedo. i think the T-56 has the electronic. if you have an electronic one already your probably a step ahead of the mechanical driven speedo guys. i dont know if the electronic ones are compatible with a T-56 or not either.
but i havent done the swap myself but from what ive read that seems to be the main problems

350 cubes
hooker headers
750 vac secondary

Sure you can mount a T-56 behind a CARBED engine, my buddy in CAL. who runs in the 185 MPH class in the PONY EXPRESS 100, has this very setup. MECHANICAL ROLLER ZZ-3 block with IRON BOWTIE heads, and a 1996 T-56 with RAM 4-fingered disc clutch. He used the VDO programmable electronic speedo, and TACH. BTW, The VDO speedo DOESN'T NEED A BUFFER, it will calibrate to the T-56.
Also, I used a 1994 T-56 with JTR "MECHANICAL SPEEDO modified tailhousing" in my T-56 conversion 3 years ago. JTR doesn't offer this service anymore, unfortunately. HTH's
